how much time to leave at airports for domestic flights in Thailand

Our trip is only three weeks away and our excitement is building. We have three domestic flights while there (the most we've every scheduled into one of our journeys)
1. Bangkok to chiang Rai
2. Chiang Mai to Krabi
3. Krabi to Bangkok

how much time would you allow at the airport prior to the flights (I'm assuming we would need more time in Bangkok?). we leave from Suvarnabhumi Airport

thanks

Your airlines will have information as to when you need to arrive at the airport for your flights. Ask your hotel concierge as to when you need to leave your hotel to get to the airport. This will of course depend on the day, time of day, distance to the airport, roads etc.

For bkk for domestic I allow 2 hours at airport--3 hours incl trip from city

Other airports, about 1.25 hours is fine

one more airport question - in Bangkok is there somewhere we'll be able to pick up a quick lunch once we're through security or should we bring something/eat first?

There are lots of food outlets in the airport, as well as shops. I've heard locals say that the Bangkok airport is the only one in the world built inside a shopping mall. The airport is huge and modern, likely much more so than your local airport!

probably right Kathie (our local airport has one little sandwich shop - on the other hand it only takes 15 minutes car to gate (: ). I get low blood sugar so just didn't want to risk getting stranded without access to food...thanks

Traffic is the key. If it's a 55 min drive allow 85 mins plus standard check in allowance of 45 mins so leave 2hrs 10 min before. Less in small towns.

On the other hand, it has never ever taken me more than 30 minutes from a hotel by the river to BKK. It took longer last trip from "downtown" to BKK.

Depends how long it takes to enter toll road. Once on a toll road it can be done in 20 or 25 mins.
