Ask at the front desk. They always know how much time you need.

I'd probably want to leave by 9:15. You can never be sure that there won't be traffic, although at that hour the worst part will be in leaving the Sukhumvit area.

I would leave the hotel at 8.30 latest and be at airport by 9.30. Long lines at passport control!

Depend on the time of the day and the day of the week. If during the week days and during the early morning or late afternoon rush hour I would add another 1/2 hour for the trip.

I travel with family members who hate sitting around at the airport! If it were me doing the travelling, I'd still plan to leave by 9:15 at the latest. It has never taken me an hour to get to the airport. Twenty minutes is more the norm. I've left at various times of the day and night... The biggest headache can be in trying to leave the Sukhumvit area.

Traffic is a much bigger issue trying to get INTO the Suk area, except late at night when I'm usually arriving from NRT. It can take quite a bit of time, a lot of it just sitting on the ramp that exits off the expressway to Suk.

And yes, there can be long lines at passport control! I would be more concerned with that than with traffic.

Yestravel, hope you've enjoyed your first visit to BKK! When will you be coming back?? (if you are like a lot of us here)

Carol

Well, we awoke early so left Adelphi Suites at 7:50. Arrived at airport within 30 minutes. Waited in line to check in at BKK Air maybe 15 minutes and then less then 10 minutes at passport control. security took less then 10 minutes. naturally because we were so early, our flt is delayed! we've been hanging out at the airport and hopefully will be boarding within the hour.

Yes, we did enjoy BKK- so much to c and do. I feel that we barely scratched the surface. absolutely loved the food. truly one of the great food cities of the world we will be back for only a day in Feb before we fly to Vietnam. after that, who knows?

again, thanks to all the posters who have answered my endless questions. u sure helped in many ways.

Ask your hotel staff, they will let you know. But be sure you leave atleast 4 hours before the flight (count one for the traffic)

Four hours before your flight???? Even if you figure a full two hours before an international flight, it's not going to take you two hours to get to the airport. From where I stay on the river, it's never taken more than 30-35 minutes. I know Sukhumvit is busy, but allowing two hours seems excessive.
