I am a Hong Kong junkie..have travelled a lot but after eight visits Hong Kong remains my favourite city. I am saying this so that you know that I am biased and I have been taken to task here before for recommending longer stays. Having said that, even though I would stay longer, I would suggest that you would need a good week there especially as you want to see the surrounding islands.I hope you enjoy Hong Kong as much as I do.

I just spent a week there. It's a nice amount of time, not too hurried, but I certainly didn't see "all" of it ! I would say 5 - 7 nights for your first visit. You'll be back.

We spent ten days on our first visit, and didn't get to see all we wanted, but we were not rushing, and walked quite a bit. For example, we planned to take a couple of hours to see flower street and the adjacent bird fair, but ended up spending over half a day there.

Enjoy your trip.
