How do you get the cheapest tickets from the U.S. to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam?

I'm trying to help a friend of mine get to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The fares I'm seeing seem very high (e.g. over $2,000 round-trip). Does anyone have a particular web site, consolidator or airline they usually go through to get the cheapest tickets? Thanks for your help!

Try mine for much much less.

Kathie Dec 27th, 2003 02:11 PM can tell you something about the airlines that fly from where you are to HCMC. Personally, I've always found very high prices and terrible routing on orbitz.

If you are located in a city with a large Vietnamese population, try a travel agent that caters to local Vietnamese. If you have an airline you usually use, see how close they can get you to HCMC. Typically, Bangkok is the best gateway (pricewise) to HCMC. However, depending on which airlines are readily availble to you, you may find Hong Kong to be the best gateway.

Flew L.A. Bangkok end November for $580 rt.On Delta/Korean plus $200 Vietnam Airlines one way HCMC to Bangkok. It is much cheaper to buy Vietnam Airlines tickets in the country. Perhaps Korean Airlines Seoul to HCMC would be cheaper.
Perhaps you are trying to fly during Tet in January when tickets are more.

Where are you traveling from?

There are some travel agents in Westminster, CA ("Little Saigon") that can get pretty good fares since they are booking so much travel to Viet Nam all the time.
