How dependable is the weather report?
In just one short week we will finally be off to Beijing, Xian, HK, BKK & CM. I have been checking the weather reports and forecasts and all I see is rain. Beijing rain, Xian rain, HK rain, Thailand all over constant rain and thunderstorms. Is this reliable?
I only ask because I live in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo Mexico. Our rainy season starts in the beginning of June and continues until late October. We do not have rain everyday but almost every night. Our days are usually sunny and bright. We had a newspaper that was written in English and published in Mexico City. I had noticed that for our weather they just put down rain and storms everyday from June until October! ! ! ! ! I wrote a letter to the editor to let him/her know how wrong they were in their forecasting. For this I am wondering if my doubts about what I read have any basis. |
Hola Chucho,
I live in Bangkok, Thailand and the weather for the past couple of days has been like this: 1 - 2 hours of rain, 3 - 4 hours of overcast sky and 2 - 3 hours of sunshine a day. Average temperature around 30 C (when overcast) and 25 C (when it's raining). Perhaps you can compare that with your weather report. |
The only weather report with any accuracy anywhere.....is when they stick their heads out the window and look !! ;)

It’s the start of the rainy season in Bangkok and Chiang Mai which wil last through end of October, so chances of rain are good there I would say. Xian tens to be fairly rainy in the spring. It is quite rainy in Hong Kong from about late April through the end of September (we get 90 inches a year, virtually all of it in those months). I would say the forecasts you have seen are accurate so far. Take a look at weatherbase.com for historical information on rainfall in those cities. I find the CNN forecasts pretty OK, the bbc.com forecasts OK too. For Hong Kong in particular, take a look at http://www.weather.gov.hk/textonly/forecast/nday.htm.
At the present moment in Hong Kong it is very foggy and damp (but quite hot), we have had some rain, but not heavy, over the past few days. |
forget the weather and enjoy the trip...it will shine all around you!!
chu will hold an umbrella over you in any case if necessary... |
I thank you all for responding. It really doesn't matter what the weather is like, I have waited so long for this vacation that I don't thing it will matter (although on the Great Wall it would be much better if we have a sunny day) . . . . just doing the packing thing and wondering what to put in - yes definately umbrellas!
And the good thing about humansis that we are waterproof. |
