How cold is Ranthambore in the mornings?
 

We will be there the first weekend in April, and everyone has told us Rajastan will be super-hot, but Ranthambore will be freezing on the morning safari. Has anyone been there at this time who can tell me how cold it is-- ie- sweater/hat/gloves?

We were there in December and totally froze, but most hotels give you blankets. We came prepared with knit caps, down coats, mittens, and wool shawls, and Sher Bagh gives you hot water bottles as well, but it was still very nippy in the morning and evening. When the sun was up it was not bad.

Take a dust mask too. We saw one family who brought the surgical type and everyone was jealous. I used a cotton scarf and had to wash it each night, it got so clogged with dust!

I was there April of 2002. It was chilly... I could have used sweater hat and gloves for the first hour in particular, but then it warms up.

These people were in the jeep in front of me. We were watching a tiger layin in the grass.

Me after having seen my first tiger in the wild. My face only BEGINS to capture the sheer ecstasy of that moment! And now looking at myself, the people with all the jackets were a few feet ahead of us. I had a t-shirt and a vest. I think I had goosebumps but it was bearable.

And I can't beleive it but I can't find the photo I took the next morning on an Indian family and the mom held the little 2-3ish girl in a blanket. I can't believe that photo is not on the site :(

How hot does it get mid-day in Ranthambhore in April?

I love the look on your face Wayne!! Unfortunately, we never saw a tiger- and we went on three visits- but we saw some other awesome animals and had a lot of fun getting "that close" one evening.

I was there mid April too. Don't think gloves. More than a hat a scarf coz it is very dusty. Jacket is enough. Days will be HOT Ericka!

By mid-day you go back to your hotel anyway. It is warm enough that the tigers will go sleep in the bushes somewhere.

I think my safaris were from 6Am - 11AM and 3PM - 6PM

Yep, that's what I figured. Sounds like it could be a good time to go though since you all have reported better tiger sightings in April. Thankfully, some of these tents are air conditioned!

It was cold in December 2000 but I did see a tiger and a leopard. I wore many layers with loose sweats as the top layer. I peeled off one layer per hour . By 10 am I was restored to my usual size and the temperature was around 70-74. Bring baggies to protect your camera from the dust.

I found those pictures. Well I gotta make a few excuse. The pictures were shot with a camera that made 1MB pictures, which I got printed at Costco. The prints came out blurry. This morning I couldn't find the original digital files, so I scanned in the the print, making it digital again. So the quality of both of these is not great, but you get the idea. They really are both cute pictures:
