Hotels reasonable priced near the Four Seasons
I will be in Singapore in late October and am looking for a reasonably priced hotel as close as possibly to the Four Seasons Singapore. Friends are staying there for business, and I don't want as much as that but do want to be able to walk or take a taxi to the Four Seasons. I am not great with public transit and all the others are staying at the Four Seasons since their business pays for it. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I have no idea what you mean by reasonably priced - give us a figure. Hotels in Singapore are pretty expensive in general.
Singapore is quite compact - you could take a taxi from anywhere to the Four Seasons. No matter how "not great" you are with public transit, do learn how to use the MRT. It is clean, efficient, air-conditioned, and one of the best subway systems in the world.

There are quite a few hotels in the Orchard Road neighborhood that would be walkable to the Four Seasons.
I'd try the Hilton which is just around the corner (I believe you can connect to the 4S via the underground shopping plaza). They often offer good discount deals.
Also, the Royal Plaza on Scott's Road, a little farther away, but still convenient.
I have a friend who was in Singapore as part of an MBA program. He always stayed at the Y. In fact, he did just what you described: walked over to the 4S to join us for expense account drinks.
Take a look at the recommendations on Fodor's Destination site. If you browse under "Orchard" you'll find several $$ (as opposed to $$$$) suggestions, included the Y.

I've stayed at quite a few hotels in Singapore, from high end to low end, but have stayed at the YMCA International House hotel the most (since the 1990s). There are two "Y" Hotels. The one where I stay is at #1 Orchard Road. It's next to the Dhouby Gaut MRT (subway) stop. You get on there and only need to go 2 stops and get off at the Orchard stop and then walk to the Four Seasons. I know where the Four Seasons is and plan to try it out.
The Singapore MRT stop can't get any easier to use. It's not confusing at all.

On the above MRT map, the Dhouby Gaut MRT stop is where the #8 is on the page.

Here's the info for the YMCA International House Hotel. I've seen it transform, over the years, from a $40. a night hotel to what it is now. I remember when I first stayed there in the late 1990s. I liked it then and I still like it. But it books up like crazy. I always had to contact the hotel directly to book, but booking procedures have changed.

I might be a little late to the party, but if you are still looking for an alternative - my suggestion is to look up Orchard Parade Hotel. It is reasonably close the Four Seasons and should be available near $200.
