Hotels Near Patong Beach

We are traveling to Phuket in April and wanted to be close to night life but far away enough to get some sleep at night. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel in and around Patong Beach that is removed enough that when we want some down time we can relax and actually sleep at night?

You didn't mention budget!

I's recommend the Burasari Resort at the south end of Patong with walking distance to Bangla Rd. (the main party street in Patong).

Hi, I stayed at the Novotel in Phuket and I loved the location. We were able to walk to the main area of Patong, but when it was time to go home we were far enough away not to be bothered.

Breakfast was included in the rate, which was pretty good.

If you must stay in Patong, The Holiday Inn Busakorn wing would be my choice. A short walk to Bangla RD but removed enough to give you a sense of being isolated. Very tropical setting around the pool area and very nice rooms.

Do be aware, that the beach at Patong is not as nice and the water, nowhere near as clear as Kata.

Have you thought about splitting your time between Patong and Kata seeing you are having so much difficulty deciding where to stay?

What type of "nightlife" are you after? Most of the Patong nightlife is designed around NOT sleeping at night. If what you want to do is be shoulder to shoulder with hordes of intoxicated people chasing cheap hookers and watching Ladyboys dancing aroung poles, then Patong will be perfect. Apart from that, there is little there that you cant get in the far more relaxed, cleaner, friendler and more beautiful Kata Beach.

I liked Patong 15 years ago when it was less developed and less sleezy. We liked staying close to the action and mostly slept during the day. On my last few trips, we stayed at Le Meridian and went to Patong most nights but then discovered Kata and now would only go to Patong once or twice a week, to perhaps go to the Muay Thai, see a show or shop. Bangla Road is a circus at night and we have no desire to spend any time there. You may as well be at a Red Light district at home.

In addition to being a good base to explore Phuket and the rest of Southern Thailand, Patong is a playground. There are many things to do: swimming, para-sailing, speed-boating, bannana-boating, or you can just sit and vegetate at the beach. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalboz/page8/

Don't be afraid to go to Bangla Rd. It's just another street but with lots of bars and clubs. Go at least once just to check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kalboz/5397082448/

If you are looking for a budget hotel, try this one (Sea Blue Phuket Guesthouse) it's clean, comfortable and it comes in highly recommended: http://www.seabluephuket.com/

I think that Kalil's Bangla Rd photo's illustrate quite clearly my description of it.

I'm no prude, but I just think the whole thing is overdone. It is definately something that, as a first time visitor, I would recommend that you go and see, but dont base your hotel choice around being walking distance from it. If you are not on holidays to procure cheap horizontal entertainment, you may find that one visit to Bangla rd is enough. All the other things that Kalil mentions can be done at nicer beaches.

Shanek, I really do appreciate your input however we will be traveling with a group and wanting to do some group activities and making a base here seems to work best for all. Trust me, I'd rather be at Kata and just taxi on in for the night time fun or taxi on in for any planned excursions, perhaps if this was just the two of us I'd push more to stay in Kata as a home base. Who knows we may end up there in the end! I am really giving this much thought and thank all for their recommendations. Thank god for forums like these. Years ago you had to rely on books and photos!

Le Meridien which is on it's own cove south of Patong. In Patong but away from the very busiest area Graceland is an option, used to be top end but not so much now,but go for sea view rooms as base rooms can overlook car area. Every time I 'have to go near Patong' I think it can't get any more built up, but it does !
Remember there are no tours or trips that you can do from Patong that you can't do from Kata, makes no difference. Places like Katathani, Mom Tri's still great.
Have a look at the new Centara Grand on the beach in Karon, if you are into large resorts, has great pools and lots of facilities.
