hotels in Saigon
This forum helped me pick the Four Seasons Hotel in Bangkok, which was more than perfect for our needs.
I am now looking for a hotel in Saigon with the same criteria. Although the cost is not important, and we would like an upscale hotel, we like a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Hate snobbery and stuffiness. Would not have liked the Oriental in Bangkok, with its security guards at the doors. We like to be in the centre of activity, where we can walk in the evening. Also, is there anything equivalent to the River City Mall in Bangkok in Saigon? |
I stayed at the Caravelle last year, very nice but you could have been anywhere...the Park Hyatt Saigon had just opened across the street...it looks wonderful...stay there!

It the Hyatt centrally located?
Walking, restaurants, strolling? I do not know the city at all. Thanks in advance Bev |
I stayed at the Majestic on my trip last year and really loved it. It was quite nice but not stuffy at all, and I really liked the location right on the river (but an easy walk to restaurants, etc).

Saigon Hyatt is well lcopcated and iwithin easy walking distance of shops, attractions and restaurants.

I saw the Majestic when I was in Saigon last month. It was lovely, and very well located near the best shops in restaurants. You want to be sure to stay in District 1, to be in the center of things.

The Hyatt is less than 2 years old. Good location, but not much charm. The Majestic probably fits your bill the best. Just walk out the door and up Dong Khoi street for more dining option than you'll ever be able to sample.
FWIW the Rex has finished the demolition part of it's expansion and upgrade, but the location is just a little bit out of the way, in my opinion. |
I like the Renaissance Riverside Hotel, it is on the River and has great cheap eats, and decent shopping just around the corner, it is a 5 star modern high rise but not snobby, my other choice is The Majestic which is just around the corner and has a wonderful old world charm, it is also less expensive.

The Park Hyatt is actually just over one year old. It, and the Sheraton are the closest thing to the Four Seasons in HCMC. The Majestic is nothing like the Four Seasons. It's location next to the main road through the port (Ton Duc Thang) makes it very noisy (think horns honking at all hours). The building is quite nice and they have a good rooftop bar, but if money were no object, I'd never stay there. The Grand Hotel just up Dong Khoi is in a better location and much quieter if you're looking to save some $$. Whether you walk up Dong Khoi or Hai Ba Trung, you'll have a tremendous variety of places to eat at.

We loved the Renaissance Riverside. Stay on the executive floor- lovely room. Also it is within easy walking distance of restaurants and bars.

I booked the Hyatt. Will report back in January. |
