Hotels in KL...

I'm booked into the Ritz but I've heard it's now looking a bit jaded and it's next door to construction works. If so I might change my booking.
Is this true ?
Has anyone stayed at the New Le Meridien or New Hilton and if so,are they up to 5 Star Standard ?.

Les, I stayed at the Ritz in November and loved it. There is some construction next door, but I was not inconvenienced by it in any way. I would stay there again.

The decor is very "old world" Ritz Carlton. Some of the other hotels are very modern (which you make like or dislike). If you choose the Ritz, do opt for an Executive rooms, as I've heard that the regular rooms are not fabulous. The Executive rooms are huge with a separate sitting area, dressing room and a huge bath.

All the rooms have 24 hour butler service, and all have access to the Club rooms with foods and drinks all day. The service at the Ritz is legendary, and for good reason.

By the way, I paid US$126 a night for an Executive Room, including breakfast at asiahotels.com. What a great price!

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton, KL, and loved it. Only paid $108. for a standard room and was upgraded, for free, to the Club(?) level where you have to have a key to put in the elevator to even access the upper floors. Plus they had about 5-6 culinary presentations a day...as they call it...up in the private dining area...that were included in the price of the room...so you really didn't have to even eat out if you didn't want to.And I had a butler. I'd happily stay there again...construction site or not! Happy Travels!

Guenmai's recommendation is part of what swayed me to stay at the Ritz. My butler at the Ritz (who was fabulous!)told me that it's the only Ritz in the world that has butler service for all of the rooms and that all of the rooms have access to the Club.

I stayed at the Ritz 2 years ago and it was hugely disappointing. I had stayed there the year before and found it fabulous, hence the return trip. Standards had slipped, quality of club snack was poor, room service was poor, restaurant was average and butler service was slow. Nowhere near as good as other Ritz Carltons though much cheaper. Am returning to KL this year but will try Mandarin Oriental.

I stayed at the Ritz Dec 2003 and loved it. The staff are exceptionally nice and helpful. I paid 440RM for three people in a standard room. The hotel is looking a little old in places and there was construction going on nearby when I was there, but this didn't prevent me from enjoying myself. My only problem with it is the location. I wouldn't say it's far but there are other 5 star hotels which are more centrally located.
