Chancellor is much nicer than the HCM Somerset. Nicer facilities, rooms and location. And yes, the little mini-mart is still there.
Regarding Quan An Ngon, it has changed locations and is now on Pastuer instead of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia.
Plenty of great places to eat in Saigon. The Word magazine is worth picking up when you get there or just use this online link.

Hello there.,
I see your last post says that you stayed at the Liberty Central. I have been searching for places to stay in HCMC and came across this place. Would you recommend? We were looking at possibly booking the double deluxe room!
Cheers

Our trip was postponed a year, so we have not stayed at the Liberty Central yet. If you do a search on the words "Liberty Central" u should come up with some comments on it. We read only good things about the Liberty Central.

We stayed at the Liberty Central. It's a good hotel in a great location. Very modern, more than decent breakfast (although not as good as some others we had in VN). Not luxury, but still on the side of upscale - comfortable bed, good shower, nice-size room. If I downgrade it at all, it's only because I thought the decor was a little blah.

BTW, so you know something about us ( what good is my review to you otherwise?) we are American, both 60, live in the SF Bay Area, travel independently, love to walk and walk and walk some more in foreign cities, rarely if ever take a tour of any kind. We love cities and markets, but like to see the less developed areas too. In restaurants, we are just as happy sitting at the bar chatting with other patrons as we are at a great table. In terms of hotels, we are usually "Marriott people", although I've been known to stay at a Motel 6 when absolutely necessary.
