Hotels in Hanoi 10 to 20 Nov 2006

We have just been informed by the Sofitel Metropole Hanoi that there will be a special event called APEC 14 that will be held in Hanoi from 10 to 20 Nov 2006 with more than 30 delegations. All hotels in Hanoi have been blocked for this special event by the Vietnamese Government.
Therefore, these dates for a visit to Hanoi should be avoided as most suitable hotels will not be available.

Asia Pacific Economic Conference -- that would our guess what APEC 14 stands for. If you are up against it for a place to stay during those dates, you might check The Galaxy Hotel -- it's quite nice, very clean and modern, good food, helpful staff, and stands at the entrance to the Old Quarter.

I have just confirmed the Zephyr Hotel in Hanoi for 4 nights during this period through www.hotels-in-vietnam.com.

Has anyone else ever used this site?? Also, any feedback on the Zephyr Hotel would be greatly appreciated

Because of the APEC 14 conference during the period Nov 10-20, we changed our itinerary from visiting Hanoi to Siem Reap(Angkor Wat). We thought that Hanoi would be a bit busy with all the delegations being there. We will visit Hanoi as part of a future trip to Thailand

I just stayed in a wonderful little hotel called www.DiscoveryHotel9.com. It's VERY basic, but my room was $10 a night and the owner and his wife could not possibly have been any nicer. It was cold and raining when I arrived and he loaned me money and his new windbreaker so I could buy a coat before the shops closed that night. Their son is so adorable that I wanted to bring him home with me. I highly recommend it if you're not looking for luxury. He also arranged a day trip to Halong Bay that cost $18.

Good heavens! Hanoi is full of fabulous and quirky hotels - you don't need the Sofitel! We stayed in what was our most expensive hotel for the whole trip (US30 per night)and it was just perfect. Great spot, very clean, good bathroom and friendly staff. The Win Hotel is one of many in the old quarter with great charm.
