Here's a website for hotels in Bangkok. Check out the reviews for the hotels.

Here is how I research for BKK hotels:
1. Go to library - check out guidebook for Thailand/Bangkok.
2. Buy a couple of guidebooks.
3. Read about the different areas for Bangkok. River, Silom, Siam, Sukumvit.
4. Check out the above website for hotel reviews.
5. Stay near a Skytrain.
6. Buy Nancy Chandler map of Bangkok.
You can order it via internet.
7. Fodors.com Asia, click on Thailand, then search for Bangkok hotels.

There's a wide choice, Asia Hotel deluxe room is about $38, even less for the standard twin/double, close to Siam Center and so easy for Skytrain. The Royal River I think is a bargain for about $ 54 for a deluxe room with river view, that's if you want to be on the river. Try Beachsiam, local and a huge list of places to stay in Bangkok plus reviews and a great deal of photos and information.

Guenmai: Re: Chateau de Bangkok
What website do you access to get the 1400 baht per night at the Chateau de Bangkok? Thank you!

Guenmai Nov 29th, 2004 12:03 PM

I called the Accor 800 number directly and the person who picked up got me that rate back in August. 800.818.4685. Many times I find internet rates high...for example..last week, I went on the internet to price a room at the same hotel I stayed at in Ghana last Dec/Jan...an Accor hotel. Well, I went on Expedia and the Accor website and several others and the price popped up $175. Well, last year, I paid $74. for the same room...Last year I had called the hotel while I was already in Ghana. So, this time I picked up the phone and called directly from the U.S. to Ghana...35cents a minute...and talked to the hotel about a price and got the room again for $74.00 a night. I leave in a few weeks. So, I say, try all methods of getting the low price.I have a very cheap international phone company out of San Diego that doesn't charge a cent of monthly fees to have the service, and it charges a low minute-rate to various countries, so I call foreign countries a lot to bargain prices. Happy Travels!

Guenmai, per your rec. I sent a friend to Chateau de BKK. It is a Sofitel hotel. The price for January is 1,840 baht per night. She booked it for two week stay. She stayed at the Marriot in her last trip several years ago. Thanks for your rec.

Guenmai Nov 29th, 2004 04:53 PM

Yeah,I forgot it's technically Sofitel, but ACCOR owns them ALL...Sofitel, Novetel, Ibis, Etap, Formule 1/2/3/, Motel 6...etc...So they all can be booked through Accor. Happy Travels!

recommend you use priceline.com
bid either 4 or 5 star on the river...
$50 - $65 and you can get an incredible hotel at cheap prices.
we used priceline...got 3 nites at the marriott on the river (4 star) for $55
and the 5 star shangri-la for $65 per nite.
unbelieveable luxury at affordable prices

last year and again this year we stayed at the Windsor Suites hotel (Sukumvit 20) near the Asok sky train.
We had a huge suite with breakfast included for approx $60. It was a fantastic bargain and I would recommend it. We booked through sawadee.com both years, no problem
