Hotels-Hanoi & Halong Bay

Kathie or Thursdaysd or others: Could you please suggest any mid-price hotels in both Hanoi and Halong Bay.

Thanks for the abundant info. you give.

What constitutes mid-price? We stayed at the Hanoi Elegance Diamond in Hanoi in March and thought it was super. New, modern, great location, fantastic staff, great breakfast. When we went, prices were $75 plus tax for a double, $99 plus tax for what they call a jr. suite, but in reality is just a larger (quite a bit larger) room), and $105 plus tax for an even larger room (they call it an executive suite). We stayed 4 nights in a jr. suite and 1 night in the executive suite, but I peeked into the regular room, and that would have been fine, too. The reviews on TripAdvisor are really accurate.

We stayed at the Elegance chain and there is nothing negative I could say about it. We stayed in a regular room and it was wonderful. The staff at the hotel and the accommodations made this one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had.

We stayed at the Gia Boa and the Gia Boa Grand. Both are 3 star, very reasonable, clean, friendly staff and right in the heart of the old city. Easy to to walk to a lot of Hanoi's sights.

I think the Gia Boa is on the same block as the Elegance Diamond, and at least the lobby did look very nice.

Centerpoint Silom is in Bangkok and is wonderful. Don't believe it is in Hanoi.

Last trip I stayed at the Golden Sun Legend in Hanoi - very nice although more than I usually pay. I wouldn't overnight in a hotel at Halong Bay - much better on a boat.
