Hotel/guesthouse in Luang Prabang and Vientiane

Going to Laos in a two weeks and am looking for moderate (under $100) centrally located place to stay in Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Would appreciate any recommendation. Thanks.

My last visit I stayed at the Villa Senesouk - http://www.villa-senesouk.com - in LP. Good location opposite a wat with a nice breakfast place just down the street. I booked through http://www.whl.travel/ and paid $52/night for one of their best rooms, which was really bigger than I needed. Definitely recommended.

In Vientiane I stayed at the Hotel Khamvongsa - http://www.hotelkhamvongsa.com/ - in a single room. A bit stark but adequate, I expect the more expensive rooms are nicer. On the edge of the central area.

I like Sayo Riverside in LP. Upstairs room with balcony overlooking the Mekong $50 in high season. No breakfast, excellent location. Nice people.

We stayed at Lao orchid in Vientiane. $45 incl breakfast. Nice location opposite a Wat and the breakfast was good to. For the money we thought it a bargain. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the Wat. Would recommend for sure. They also do a cheap airport collection service.

Hi Smeagol, Lao Orchid posts much higher prices than you quote. Where did you book it?

It was a little while ago and I emailed the hotel direct. How much are they asking for now?

We have stayed in a few places in the centre of Luang Prabang. In terms of value for money, The Aspara stands out and fits your requirements for a central location and budget: http://theapsara.com/ . It is a modern "boutique" located on the Nam river but still very close to the main street. As with many hotels in town in old buildings you may experience some noise from adjoining rooms but you will probably find that with any of the centrally situated hotels. I would not waste any time booking as at this time of year many places will be full.

Lao Orchid is $50.00 pn now, but you can bargain the price down, particularly if staying for a few nights.
