Hotel swimming pools - Delhi and Kolkata and more
I hope this isn't a stupid question! Heading to India in January, and we will be staying at a couple high-end hotels in Delhi and Kolkata for part of our trip. Also some other "medium-end" hotels in Agra, Jailpur and at a lodge in Ranthambore. They all have swimming pools, and I am wondering if the same crazy cautions I keep reading about regarding the water in India also apply to hotel swimming pools? Obviously not planning to gulp down the pool water, but is it safe to indulge in a swim?

It's safe. Don't worry about that.

Yay!
|
yeah...need not to worry

Its a perfectly normal and relevant question .In January it can get quite cold in Delhi and Northern India, any where betw a low of 5 C and high of 18 C. Unless you are used to those water temperatures,I don't think its going to be pleasant.
While the pools at 'high-end' hotels could be relatively safe as they are compelled to maintain the high standards,I wouldn't risk diving into pools at medium range hotels. In my opinion.Yes,its Russian roulette. |
Thanks, inquest ...
We're actually going to be in Delhi in early February - probably will still be too cold to enjoy a pool, although our hotel's is heated. In Kolkata about a month later; there we may want to swim. Thinking that keeping my head out of the water might be a good plan. Kind of refutes the idea of truly swimming, but could still be a nice way to cool off. |
Don't drink the water and you should be fine.
