hotel search in bkk

hi bob, I went on to Precision Reservations .com and saw a deluxe garden view double at your favorite hotel The marriott spa at 257 charoennakom road is that your hotel? rate $85 I guess vat svc abf are inc. I didn't see it wasn't. How does this sound? should I be specific with the room location? Your enthusiasm has affected me. Should I call the hotel, chek other sites or just book it?

rhkkmk Aug 15th, 2005 06:29 PM

that is "my" hotel....$87 is a good price indeed....make sure the service/tax is included as this is 17.7% and also the breakfast....i think i paid 3000 B for my time there in may/june which is about $75....that's not right...it was about $100 and then i booked for 6 nites and got one nite free...i think i saw it until oct 31 for $91 including tax/service and breakfast on the hua hin site....breakfast is fabulous and if your is not included you should have it at least one morning....i think it is about $12.50++ (the ++ is the 17.7% that is added on to everything)....

dpon't worry about where they put you...the garden facing rooms are the cheapest...the river view rooms are move but if econcmy is your aim garden will be just fine...all the regular, non-suite, rooms are exactly the same...ask for non-smoking king in your res and upon arrival...i prefer the main building but any of the 3 buildings is fine....non-smoking will probably get you on a higher floor which is good...

the hua hin site had some specials listed below the room rates...will you qualify for any of those?? i will look and see if they are still there...

bob

rhkkmk Aug 15th, 2005 06:32 PM

J---the bonus is still there until oct 31....you are going before then right?? i forget...if not forget it...

it is worthwhile if you are staying several nites before oct 31..

look at the red below the room prices, way at the bottom

We did this exercise before, the USD 85 with them does 'not' include tax, service etc and that is another USD 17, so total is USD 102, I then took a look at the sites Bob, I and others often use and 'their' total rates including tax, service etc was USD 97.56, also offering until end October stay 3 consecutive nights get free sunset cruise ( no drinks or food included ), stay 4 nights get room upgrade, stay 5 nights consecutive and get 1 night free including breakfast, you can find that on huahin.20m.com ( http://www.r24.org/huahin.20m.com/bangkok/bkkmarriott/ ) and also on Beachsiam.com, Nongasia.com and others, I have no idea if that is best rate or not but the rate is clear on what is included plus you get those bonus offers.

J---are you having trouble with the hua hin site??

go to the site...in the top right hand corner are two drop down boxes...in the lower one click on the arrow and select bangkok city...
you will see the marriott resort down a ways on this next page....click on book this hotel...fill in your info...in about 2 days they get back to you with a confirmation...at that time you enter your credit card info--they charge a fee for this service maybe 400 B...in another day or two they send you the voucher...the voucher is for your reference only...i have never been asked for one at my hotel when checking in or out...it is totally prepaid and it includes tax/service and a wonderful breakfast...
try this and see if it doesn't work for you....let me know with any problems you experience...this is all from my memory so i hope i have all the steps...

the $91 rate is for single and slightly more for double as james states

rhkkmk Aug 16th, 2005 10:00 AM

let me tweek the instructions a bit...

go to the hua hin site..
click the box in the top right that says "hotel destinations"...click on bangkok city...click go..

click on the marriott

click on the box to the right for the correct price for the timeframe you want--for instance, 4000 for pre oct 31 for the twin garden view

scroll down and click on book online

fill in the res info...enter spec instruction and---check on the no smoke box if that is what you want...click on send enquiry/reservation

that is as far as it would let me go..

but generally in the yellow box you were told what to expect...

rhkkmk Aug 16th, 2005 08:53 PM

J---where are you???

jeremiah7 Aug 17th, 2005 01:09 PM

Bob you are such a kind man with all your instructions which I enjoy. However, my wife Maureen liked the Swiss Lodge until this morning when a friend told her about The Atlanta and we were both intrigued with Fodors write up and went on the web site and have faxed them a reservation. Who knows yet if it will be accepted? Anyway I will stay in touch with you. We are leaving Friday for a week in the Outer Banks. Our 5 children spouses, grandchildren. dogs will all be there. Thanks again for your patient and informative posts.

glorialf Aug 17th, 2005 01:24 PM

You might want to check out some of the recent reviews of the Atlanta on tripadvisor.com.

jeremiah7 Aug 17th, 2005 06:11 PM

gloria i can't seem to get to the reviews on trip advisor. If you think this is not in our best interests please advise me. I respect your knowledge. After we get the Bkk hotel booked we are going to book joys house it looks just like what we want. Tx for your continuing help and interest. I am indebted to you and Bob. If this hotel is not ok we are also interested in the Swiss Lodge

glorialf Aug 17th, 2005 06:18 PM

The reviews on trip advisor rave about the lobby but indicate that the rooms can be very dingy and "dismal". One said moldy. I understand your desire to get away from the big commercial hotels and the Atlanta certainly meets that criteria. But you can stay very inexpensively in Bangkok and avoid words like "dismal" and dirty. Again,I've never been there but I'd check out some recent client reviews before putting money down.

glorialf Aug 17th, 2005 06:28 PM

Jeremiah-- I checked out some reviews and I would say Swiss Lodge would be the better choice. Gets really good reviews from people and the rooms have just been refurbished. And everyone talks about how friendly the service is.

rhkkmk Aug 17th, 2005 07:18 PM

the jw marriott hotel is on the other end of soi 2...this is on the edge of the adult entertainment section called nana....i actually like this area...we have stayed in this marriott several times and find it convenient...my comment would be that even for 2 spry 70 y.o. the 600 meter walk plus another 200-300 M to the skytrain every day or twice a day would not meet any of my needs for bkk in that heat...

the price is unbelievable and that also makes me skeptical...but you will never know if you don't try it...it looks great but some how i doubt it...seems like we would have seen it often on fodors or jamesA would have been singing its praises if it were as great as they say it is...

as i said before swiss lodge is much more centrally located and i think i would have a back up reservation, which can be cancelled on nite two or there for there...

have fun with all of those kids...

WE EXPECT A FULL TRIP REPORT WHEN YOU RETURN...!!!!!!

stitchintime Aug 17th, 2005 07:24 PM

jeremiah7 Aug 18th, 2005 06:36 AM
