Hotel Recommendations in Thailand

We are planning to go to Thailand in February for our honeymoon. We want to go to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and then either Phuket or Koh Samui.

The hotels we are thinking of are:
Royal Orchid Sheraton, Shangri-La, or Marriott Royal Garden Riverside in Bangkok. The Westin or Regent in Chiang Mai. The Dusit Laguna or the Chedi in Phuket. The Santiburi Dusit in Koh Samui.

We want hotels that are luxurious with a lot of atmosphere. For the beach resort we would like to stay at a hotel that is away from the main resorts by a good beach.

I'd appreciate any feedback you may have on the hotels listed above, or on any others which you think would be a good 'honeymoon' hotel.

While spending our holiday in Koh Samui we once visited Santiburi on a day trip. We could also see some of their rooms and the resort is really very lovely. In case you go to Koh Samui it is certainly the best choice you can take as the resort is very nice and away from all the trouble.

Le Meridien in Koh Samui is head and tail above the Santiburi. Location, privacy, nice beach, unbelivable pool, snorkeling, views , etc. etc. Starts at around $300 a night. Highly recommended.
Hi Charlotte:

My husband and I are also planning a trip to Thailand and Vietnam in March,2000.

From a relative who was posted in Singapore from the UK, your best deal is booking the hotel yourself.

Try www.planetholiday.com. Same great hotels you want but between 50 - 65% off the actual price. No gimmicks!

All the very best to you. Hope you have a wonderful life!. My husband and I have been married for 27 years - and we have enjoyed every minute.

We stayed at the Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok. It's a very nice hotel, all rooms with a river view, extremely helpful staff, excellent location (next to a river ferry dock and shopping center, but not central).
We also looked at the Marriott. It, too, is a very nice hotel (although we didn't actually see the rooms), with nice grounds. However, it's more isolated, and on the "wrong" side of the river, which means you'll probably have to take their ferry across to go anywhere in town. At the Sheraton, you can just hop in a cab and go.
I also like the Sheraton, but we had a very nice dinner at the Shangri-La. If you do not stay at the Shangri-La at least have dinner their. (reservatins suggested). I also stayed at the Westin in Chiang Mai...also a very nice hotel not far from the night market. Also best place to have clothing made in in Bangkok. If you need any help with that let me know.
