Hotel Procedure Q
Hello Fodorites,
Ready to take off to Singapore, Cambodia, and Thailand in two weeks. Have a bit of a dilemma. I will be departing back home from Bangkok and the flight is late evening on Thursday. However, I am checking out of the hotel Thursday morning, and wanted to spend the day to do some more sightseeing. Would the hotel accept my luggage and my valuables in their safe until I am back Thursday evening to pick them up even though I checked out Thursday morning? Anybody had a similar experience? Thanks, Razzle_Dazzle |
I've done this exact thing many times over at different hotels in different countries and these are not necessarily 5-star hotels even. Some have stored luggage rooms, others just net baggages around in a corner of the lobby area - it depends on how comfortable you are with your belongings stored this way.

The Peninsula kept our bags for us when we checked out in the afternoon but really departed at midnight - not a problem at all. We've done the same in Bali and Hong Kong. In Osaka, we left things for 3 weeks at the Hilton, free of charge, waiting in our room when we checked in again. Never come across a hotel that isn't accommodating in that sort of way. You shouldn't have any trouble at all. Just be sure to keep your passports and other travel documents either securely locked up or with you (locked up is better imho).

Thank you both. Do you think they would also let me store my valuables in their safe for the day (e.g. passport, etc.)? I wouldn't want to run around the town with all of my valuables on me.
|
I would keep passports and tickets with you- in a security wallet that you wear inside your shirt.

we leave our bags and junk often for days at a time with the bellman...they all have large rooms set aside for this...you would have to make special plans to keep the safe however....i did do that at the shangri-la last year, but only by special permission...

Many thanks, folks.

Razzle_Dazzle,
I agree with the suggestion of the bellman but depending on how busy the hotel is you might want to ask for a late checkout. Some hotels are happy to provide this if they're not to busy. Sometimes it's a perk of their frequent guest programmes. |
I've often done this and never had a problem. I've also often gotten a late check out if I asked.
