Hotel near Tokyo Station

Hi, I need some help please. I am looking for a reasonably priced hotel near Tokyo Station. Or, an alternate location suggestion. We arrive at Narita late in the evening and are traveling by shinkansen to Kyoto the next morning. We are travelling in early June, there are two of us (double preferred not twin) and we'd really like to pay no more than 13500 Yen. Am I dreaming? Thanks, Lissa

Try one of these hotels near the Shinagawa station rather than staying near the Tokyo station. Shinagawa station is on the shinkansen line and the station is much easier to navigate than Tokyo station

Thanks, the toyoko-inn idea seems great. I've never heard of it before though and it is very cheap compared to other rooms around at the hotel in shingawa, it seems to good to be true, does anyone know of a 'catch' with the deal? Thanks, Lissa

I stayed there for one night a few weeks ago when I was coming from Narita and going to Okayama the next day. The room (I had a single) is small but it has everything you need - fridge, flat-screen tv, hot pot for tea, free internet connection, full bathroom plus a free breakfast in the morning. The only thing lacking which I also found when I stayed in the Kurashiki Toyoko Inn is storage space - basically no drawers or shelves - but for one night that's not an issue.....Also spotlessly clean and I didn't smell any cigarette smoke. The one at Shinagawa gets booked out quick - you can book exactly three months in advance.

No catch here as Toyoko Inns are a big nationwide company but a no frills room as Mara states. They are the Japanese equivalent to the Motel Six chain in the US only with smaller rooms. Very clean economic hotels nationwide that even have a free breakfast and internet but you just have to get used to small rooms.

Mara, did you join their club at the front desk? If you do you can book six months ahead online.

Aloha!

Great, thanks for that information. Does anyone have any input on suitability for double bed (2 people).

Sunroute Plaza shinjuku looks good and a rate of approx 9000 Yen. Does anyone know if this is the same hotel mentioned on bidding for travel in relation to the shinjuku area? It's just that the link takes you to a different hotel site. Thanks for any help, Lissa

No, ht - I didn't join - I couldn't figure out if the fee is one time or annual - was going to try to ask and then I sort of forgot all about it. My only issue was the lack of storage space - but there was a notice left on the bed that you could fit your suitcase under the bed - so when I stayed three nights in Kurashiki I did that and used it like a drawer - there was a small closet in that one. I actually didn't have much storage space anywhere I stayed - the Japanese style rooms didn't have shelves either. Luckily for me I travel light ;-)

Please do not use the link on Bidding for Travel. The link there might take you to a hotel you do not want to stay at, or the link might preclude you from getting the best possible rate.

Hi again rizzuto, it was a very strange place (website) that that link took me to. I've used priceline to great advantage previously, but am a bit nervous of it in Japan as there are so many accommodation choices. Thanks, Lissa
