Hotel in Hong Kong?

Anyone stayed in a good, nice location and cheap hotel in Hong Kong?

Which area to stay? Yau Ma Tei? Kowloon? Tsim Sa Zui?

Thanks

What do you consider cheap? HK is not very cheap on average. For example, even basic hostel rooms for 2 cost $40-60 vs $15-30 in Cambodia/Thailand.

Forget about where. Just concentrate on price and hotel.

Cheapest "real hotel" (i.e whole building IS a hotel) around HK$500 a night with places like the YWCA Anne Black, Caritas Bianchi Lodge, Salavation Army Booth Lodge, Ibis North Point, and various smaller (but fairly new) places in Mong Kok, Tai Kok Tsui, Tsuen Wan, etc.

If you want to spend less than that, you're looking at guest houses or hostels inside mixed use building. While Chungking and Mirador Mansions are (in)famous, and is frequented by backpackers on the tightest budget, there are other guesthouses elsewhere in better areas and safe buildings - like in Causeway Bay.

[Even cheaper will be the Mount Davies Youth Hostel.]

Above that, you have lots of hotel choices. People love convenience in Hong Kong, so some out of the way hotels are bargains. For example, right now, you can get the brand new Nina in Tsuen Wan for about HK$750. They call itself a 5* hotel, but it's a super super deal even if it's only 4* quality.

It's quite close to the KCR-West rail station, so it's not THAT inconvenient.

So like others have said, first thing is what's your actual budget?

Wow.... it's expensive.
My actual budget will be less than HK$500 per night. I have found some cheaper hotels but someone complained that they are the prostitute area which definitely i would not want to stay.
Hmmm.... help me....

What dates do you need?

At your budget, your choice for a real hotel in a convenient area is limited. If you want nice location, I'll pick a guest house in Causeway Bay.

I decided to stay at Alisan Guesthouse in Causeway Bay. Their rates are HK$400 for a double room, a bit cheaper for single. I check all the other "cheaper" hotels mentioned above and they were all double this price, at least in December when I'm going.
