hotel in Hiroshima

Hello,

We are off to Japan next month and are looking for a hotel for 2 nights in Hiroshima. There are 4 of us and we were looking at The Ryokan Sera Bekkan Hotel in Hiroshima but now I can't find anyway to book it so am wondering if it is no longer in business?

We want something with good walking distance to the memorial as well as restaurants and bars. We are younger and don't need over the top nice but would like something decent and comfortable.

Does anyone have any recent stays in Hiroshima and could recommend a place?

Thanks!

thank you both so much! I was thinking it was a bit more of a hotel even though it has ryokan in the name!

The Rihga Royal Hotel in Hiroshima is nice. I've stayed there a couple of times and not been disappointed.

Great location across the street from the park that is home to Hiroshima-jo. From one room I had a view into the Carps baseball stadium, so it is convenient to that, tho no ball in December. There is an underground mall in the same block as the hotel, so you might go there if it is very cold. The location is a short walk to the Genbaku Dome. It is near restaurants and shopping.

I got a much better rate online by using their Japanese webpage. I used babelfish.altavista.com to translate the webpages as I made my online booking. The translation is not perfect but you can figure out the meaning. Got an e-mail reservation confirmation in Japanese that I was then able to translate with babelfish and help of a friend. I called to confirm that I actually had the res. No problem.

we are also looking at Hotel Active Hiroshima- has anyone stayed here recently? this looks good for us as it is a bit less expensive and has a more modern feel

I find the hotel reviews on tripadvisor.com very useful as they include real travellers impressions. We've just come back form Japan and in Hiroshima we stayed at the New Hiroden as choices were limited - it was well located but nothing special.

We ended up staying at the Hotel Active! which I would highly recommend. It's right on the train route, very well priced, super clean, great breakfast and very nice staff!

And the okonomiyaki in Hiroshima is the best food ever!!!
