Hotel in BKK and Chiang Mai
 

Hi,
My husband and I will be in Thailand in the month of December.

Location is of utmost importance to us, proximity to the skytrain/subway.. We are looking for a hotel in BKK under $100/night.
Any comment on Phranakorn-Nornlen Hotet, Admiral Premier, Dusit???

For Chiang Mai - the budget is $75 - $150/night.

You may be able to get a studio "apartment" at the Adelphi Suites on Sukhumvit soi 8. The walk to the escalator going UP to the skytrain is about 2 minutes or less away. There is good eating on soi 8 as well.

From your list the Dusit is the best and with immediate, right outside the hotel property, access to both the underground and BTS. If you can get it for $100 or less a night I would go for it.

Chiang Mai you can also try the D2 which belongs to the Dusit chain and possibly you can get a package deal for staying in 2 of their hotels. I would email and enquire about this possibility. Do hurry as December is a high month.

Has anyone tried Center point silom in Bangkok

and the Rimping village in Chiang Mai?

I want to have a couple of options before I decide.

There are lots of reports here about Centerpoint Silom. It's a good location. Someone recently posted a question about Rimping Village. Use the search function at the top of the page.

RE Chiang Mai: We did once stay in the centre on the moat surrounding it, but much preferred the Mercure (then a Novotel)on the other side of the old city. It is rather a quiet location, excellent for self-drivers as it avoids the centre traffic, excellent for wat seeing as it's walking distance from the old city. It has a free shuttle to the night market area which takes care of dinner. The rooms were perfectly fine - 4* I'd say - so was the pool with a view of the mountains. And it's so darn cheap, approx. 20 Euro in high season.

I stayed at Center Point Silom in Bangkok. It is a little bit plain, but a nice Serviced Apartment.

if it's not too late to respond---
we stayed at the centre point silom and loved it. really loved it. didn't ask for a river view, but got one. with balcony. right next to the sky train. so great to have a washing machine in the room. really helpful staff in the lobby. the elevator guy literally saluted us each morning. biggish room. nice bathroom. pretty good sheets and very comfy beds. we paid about $42 on agoda.
on the down side-- the breakfasts were just ok. kind of a depressing room. nothing fancy. no beautiful lobby and bar. however, the shangri-la is next door and we frequented their happy hour which offered 2-for-1 drinks and a great plate of free hordouvres.

we stayed at the le meridian in chiang mai and absolutely loved it. we paid about $70 -- they had really reduced prices last summer and i think they still are. big room with floor-to-top windows and a view of the mountains. (corner rooms are more, but they are all windows.) great service. wonderful bathroom. all top notch. breakfast was the best of the trip. even bagels with lox and cream cheese toasted to order. the pool is small-- but good for cooling off. we joke about retiring there!
