Hotel help in Bangkok

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has suggestions of hotels in Bangkok in the $60-$70 per night price range. We are 3 female young adults (we're all 24 years old) which I know makes things a little tricky. We were planning on staying at Bossotel however after reading some of the trip summaries, I think we would prefer to stay in the Sukhumvit area. Any and all suggestions are appreciated!!!

In the Sukhumvit area, the Ambassador and the Amari St. James are in that price range. There's also a couple of Centre Point Serviced Apartments in that area, where you might be able to get a 3-bedroom deal for less than 3 rooms in other hotels.

be very careful in the sukhumvit area with hotels....part of it is in the adult entertainment area, especially in the low soi #'s...

the grand president is another one you might look at...

in that price range, given the exchange rates in 2008 you are not going to get anything very glamourous...

majestic grande is a little more but worth the $$....

try this site to get prices and hotel names all on one page:

Soi 4 is probably the "seediest" of the low numbered streets. Soi 8 is delightful, really. That's where I'm staying right now, but I'm paying over $100/night for an apartment at Adelphi Suites.

Grand President on soi 11 really is a good choice.

You might also look at Suk 11. It is an "interesting" place. Lots of what I'd call "hippies"... not really your backpackers... stay there. I'm sure it's clean and has a charm all its own.

Just to clarify do you mean one room for 3 or 3 seperate ones at $60-70 each. This makes a big difference in what can be recommended.

I meant one room for 3 people...sorry for the confusion! We would love to all stay together. The other two are my college roommates and we all live in different cities and are reuniting in Thailand. I figured we would get one double occupancy room and pay the extra for another bed.

The Grand President looks like a great option. I will definitely pass that on to my friends.

Do you guys know anything about the Bossotel? Are we making the right decision choosing to stay in Sukumvit? I know all the luxurious hotels are by the river. We would also like to be near good nightlife. I want to make sure the location we chose is safe for three females. I've heard about Suk 11 from other friends who stayed in guesthouse but it doesn't seem very inexpensive to me. I think we would prefer to spend an extra $30 and stay in a nicer hotel.

Thanks for all the wonderful advice!

With the extra charge for a third person in a room all the places mentioned above (except Suk 11) are over your limit of $70. The Grand President while excellent is $137 for 3. You could have a look at the Swiss Park which is in a good location on Sukhumvit 11 and a short walk to the skytrain.

In my opinion the Bossotel is better than the Swiss Park or a similar onr that you would get on Sukhumvit but then I am not a great fan of that area. The Bossotel has been reviewed quite often and usually get good marks. The rooms are on the smallish and basic but very clean and the breakfast is good. It is very convenient to either the skytrain or river ferries. Add a few $ and get a superior or deluxe room which are better than there standard

Sorry, I misunderstood you as well. I would definitely look outside the Suk area, as you will get something much better for the price. Ratchadapisek has it's own seedy areas, but you can definitely get a nice triple at a good price at the Ayuthaya Grand, Chaophraya Park, Grand Mercure or even the Merchant Court.

Sorry but 3 of the hotels michael mentions are over the $70 limit. The Ayuthaya Grand I do not know. The Merchant Court used to be a good hotel at a reasonable price but now it is a swissotel le concorde at over $150 for a triple.

Its not in the Sukhumvit area but for a clean, simple hotel look at the Ibis Siam (in Pratunam area).
http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/ficheh...he_hotel.shtml
We stayed there for a few nights in February and it was fine - see trip advisor reviews http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...k-Bangkok.html
For a budget hotel this French chain is usually very good. Rooms are not fancy, usually pretty standard and similar the world over, but usually clean and practical. The location is not so central, but its pretty easy to hop on a bus, get a taxi etc from here. Lots and lots of clothing shopping possibilities in Pratunam area too.

hmmm....I'm not sure what to do at this point. Sounds like we should skip Sukumvit and stay at the bossotel. A friend is still trying to convince me to stay at suk 11 but I'm slightly hesitant.

I looked at all the hotels MichaelBKK suggested but they did seem to be slightly above our price range. I was super excited yesterday to find a room at the Adelphi Suites for $73/night (total for 1 room accommodating 3 people) on agoda.com however I had a feeling it was too good to be true. I emailed the hotel and sure enough they said that was the price for 2 people...agoda lied

Thanks for all the help! I was slightly intimidated to post originally but i'm glad i did!!! If I have anymore questions I will be back!

may i make one suggestion to you....its wise, imo, to spend a little bit more on your room and cut back on food, drink or entertainment to assure a better over all trip...easy to say i know, but from some experiences i have read its best to spend a bit more...

thailand hotels are generally set up for two people, not three, except for a small child in your room....its just the way it is...

two years you could easily have done it for $70 but not this year...

bossotel gets some good ratings from fodorites....it is basic...

We stayed at the Majestic Grand last time and found that we did not care for the Suk area at all. Lots of persistent hookers in the bars...even the nice ones and lots of 60 year old white men with young thai women. I would go for the bossotel (in fact I might try it on our next trip!!!)
I think the river location and access to the water is also a bonus. That way you can easily access suk or head down the river on the water taxi to the kho san area (full of lots of lively pubs and young people from all over the world stay there--mostly backpackers but still really great fun and a great place to meet people) Just a thought!

It's hard for me to judge how much we will be spending on food and entertainment because I have never been before and I find some of the guidebooks hard to believe! Frommer's says a meal at the Four Seasons costs between $4-$11. That can't be realistic. or is it?

I do think we would be happier in a nicer hotel, but i'm nervous we will break the bank! I'm sure we will be cramped with 3 in a room, but we really would prefer to stay together.

I wonder what the Frommers people ate that cost $4-11 at the Four Seasons.

I agree that isn't a realisitic price for a meal at the Four Seasons, but it is a realistic price for a meal at many places. There are lots of excellent cheap eats in Bangkok, both small restaurants as well as food courts in the malls (don't laugh - they have some good options in the food courts). Of course, stret food is cheap, but youo have to decide whether you want to take the risk.

If you are willing to pay a bit more than $60-70 per night, there are some serviced apartments that might suit you. The Ceterpointe Silom is near the river and by the Skytrain, and it may give you more room for the three of you to stay together.

I resided at the Four Seasons Bangkok for many years of trips and I have no idea what Frommer is talking about. How old is his information?
When the dollar was up at 39-41 baht...back around 2004-2005, then I could have the huge buffet breakfast for about $15.00 I think it used to be. The last time I stayed at the Four Seasons Bangkok was in the summer of 2005.
However, I was just there for a drink in Jan 2008 and I still eat there pretty regularly as I'm ususally in BK twice a year on vacation. I still hang out there...snacks...drinks...meals... even though I now live across town. Happy Travels!

I forgot to add that there is a deli at the Four Seasons that's out in the courtyard area. They serve sandwiches, pastries, etc. Maybe they ate in there. I used to go in there and buy a tuna sandwich and some other goodies and then go back up to my room and watch movies on the flatscreen TV. The deli is not that expensive, but one can't eat for those Frommer prices in the 4 restaurants on the premises. Happy Travels!
