Hotel for last night in Bangkok
We are flying back from Krabi to BKK arriving around 6:30pm and we fly home to the US the next day around 1:00pm from BKK.
Any suggestions on where we should stay our last night? At the airport or back in the city (we will be staying at the Majestic Grande our first few days in BKK)? We will want to out our last night in Bangkok but don't want to risk missing our flight because of traffic? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! |
Stay ib town for your last night. You have tiem to enjoy your last night in Thailand in style. No reason to woory about missing your flight because of traffic. Your hotel can tell you what time you should leave.

stay in the city for sure....depends on your budget...
peninsula for a fabulous send off at about $200 plus plus until dec 21.. marriott if you want to laze around the pool you last day....about $136 on asia rooms until spring... majestic grande again if you liked it...and i think you will bangkok holiday inn on ploenochit....newly redone last year, probably about $125 davis hotel rembrandt hotel center point--many locations sheraton grande, landmark or jw marriott near by to the SG... don't stay at the airport... you have plenty of time to get to the airport....leave about 9:30 after a nice breakfast |
Normally I would agree with the others but if you arrive at 6:30 pm, by time you get off the plane, walk a mile, line up to get your passport stamped, wait for your baggage, take a taxi into the city, check-in and by time you have sorted yourself out and are ready to go out, it will probably be around 10pm.
Then next day you have to leave about 09:30 or maybe even 9am because you'll be going through rush hour and want to get to the airport not too long after 11am. It doesn't seem worth all the time and effort and cost. I would say book an airport hotel, watch a film or two on TV and an early night. Note. Last month the Bangkok airport moved from the old one 25kms north of the city to the new one 30 kms east of the city. What was an airport hotel before may now be a good hour's taxi ride away. From cheap to expensive, try: http://www.chiangdao.com/thailandhot...porthotels.htm You will need to book quick because there are not many hotels near the new airport. |
kaneda, you may have missed that the OP is flying from Krabi. so there is no passport stamping, etc. Also, even with the new airport, no one has reported processing times as long as you are mentioning even with international arrivals.
There is only one option for a hotel at the new airport (the Novatel). As always, it's an overpriced and not very exciting place to stay. For the prive of one night at the Novatel, you could spend the night at the Penn! If it were me, no question I would stay in town. If you opt for a more moderately priced hotel, the cost of teh hotel and the taxis and you dinner together will likely be less than the airport hotel. |
I agree with staying in BKK. We spent our last night there, arriving from Krabi and it ended up being the best night of our trip. We had a 6am flight, stayed up till 2am smoking cubans and listening to a jazz band at the bamboo bar in the oriental. We too debated about staying at the airport and were glad we didn't.

Kathie. Yes I did miss out on Krabi but even then it will still take a fair bit of time to get to Bangkok and everything else. The link I gave gives four hotels within easy reach of the airport from $30 - $65, with another one cheaper ($16).
