Hotel Adivce for Bangkok Requested

I'm considering three very different hotels and I would like some advice please. We are in our 60s' (early and late) and will be in Bangkok for 6 nights in January. We would like convenient access to the usual attractions (Wat Pho, Grand Palace, Chinatown and to a lesser extent (can miss) Khaosan Rd) But we will be taking 2 day trips outside the city and so also need a hotel in the area for hotel pickups. We don't have a specific hotel type. We tend toward spacious and modern but also like hotels that ooze the local culture. Since we are traveling a lot lately I want to try to reduce our hotel budget but I am having trouble doing that. Here's what I am looking at:

Villa Phra Sumen Bangkok $501 (for 6 nights) Booking.com rating 9.1
The Seven Luck $163 (for 6 nighs) Booking.com rating 8.8
Bangkok Dream Apartments $668 (for 6 nghts) Booking.com rating 9.6 2BR with Washer

Which would you choose. Alternatively, do you have a better suggestion within that budget?

Thank you for your time and advice

Our favourite mid-ranger is New Siam Riverside on Phra Athit, right on the river, swimming pool, stonking buffet breakfast, v.close to Pier 13, and loads of great vfm restaurants and chilled places for a drink.

Thanks LancasterLad. The new Siam Riverside looks great. Question for you. What is a "double bed"? Is it like an bed that small But sometimes double means American King. (two twins set up as one bed).

Sorry, forgot to preview. What I meant to say was:

What is a double bed? Is it like an American double? We have a hard time sleeping in a bed that small. But sometime double means American King...two twins set up as one bed.

We like chatrium riverside... Our favorite is anantara riverside (more $$ but worth it), all of the center point hotels, Marriott sukhumvit park, Marriott Mayfair...

There is no hotel or area which is convenient to all the attractions.

I prefer to book directly with each hotel... I think you get better rooms and do not need to pre-pay usually.

A "double" bed, in England at least, means one bed suitable for two people and 4ft 6in wide. A King bed is larger at 5 ft and a super king, larger still at 6ft.

"Two nations divided by a common language" George Bernard Shaw - apparently also divided by bed sizes :-)

If you are using booking.com a lot then have a look at their genius discounts for members - they appear to be genuine.

Although the actual reviews on booking. com are genuine, the methodology they employ in arriving at the scores is basic at best. So I would take those scores with a pinch of salt.

As bob says you will likely get better better deals booking direct with the larger hotels but I have found that smaller places are usually cheaper with booking.com or, occasionally Agoda.

Chatrium is definitely worth a look - just under $100 on in high season is a bargain, especially as you like spacious rooms

Hi, since you have mentioned an apartment I think you should consider an accommodation of that type cz apartments in Bangkok are generally considered to be very affordable and will provide you with a lot of space and comfort as it is somewhat of a home away from home. This place called Vic3 Bangkok is within easy distance to all of the attractions you have listed and plus their site says that they have a 40% promotion going on, so check that out. Also, since you have said that you will be checking out all the usual attractions, why not go to see the unusual one’s as well :D The Chao Mae Tuptim shrine, Giant Dragon Tower at Wat Samphran and the David Beckham Temple (Wat Pariwat) are some really cool and really unique attractions that are also worth a visit. Hope you have an amazing trip, good luck!

We were happy with Centre Point Silom; great location near the river. Good connections to the river ferry and a major BTS stop (mass transit train). Nice size serviced rooms, good breakfast.

I am traveling to Thailand in April and I was originally planning to spend about three days in Bangkok along with two day trips to Ayuthaya and Amphawa however I am concerned spending only three days in Bangkok isn't enough to fully experience the city. I am on a 2 week time crunch and really want to make the most of my trip but don't want to feel rushed through Bangkok. Do you think 3 and a half days is enough? Thanks!

I never get enough of bkk. I thought ayuthya was a waste of time.

Pick a nice riverside hotel and stay in bkk

Thanks everyone. I picked the Royal Orchid Sheraton because they are having a sale.
