Hong Kong restaurants
We are staying at Intercontinental. Some good restaurants in that area?
|
I will recommend 4 best restaurant in Hong Kong . The restaurants are Tim's Kitchen, The Chairman,Island Tang, and Otto e Mezzo.
|
A good 4 star hotel. Lucky for you ChungKing mansion in just up Nathan Road. A wonderment of world cuisine.
|
The IC is a top 5* hotel and its Chinese restaurant and the steakhouse are top rated. Good restaurants everywhere in HK - just depends on your budget and what you wanna eat.

The 4 restaurants which thamesboathire recommends are not near your hotel, they are on Hong Kong Island. That does not make a big difference, as public transport is cheap and efficient. (I disagree on Island Tang, but that is what makes horse races…).
There are so many restaurant choices in Hong Kong that you really need to be more specific on budget, cuisine and whether you want a view. I would not limit myself just to restaurants near your hotel. However, from my own list, for restaurants within walking distance of your hotel are below. These are in roughly descending price order. If you want my complete list of restaurant reccos, send me an email at [email protected] Felix The Peninsula Hotel Salisbury Road Kowloon Tel: 2920-2888 http://hongkong.peninsula.com Top floor of the new wing, design by Philip Stark. Asian-Fusion, however the views may be better than the food. Great views IF you get a window table. Must see the bathrooms. They have a pretty lively bar too. Nobu Intercontinental Hotel 18 Salisbury Road Kowloon Tel: 2721 1211 http://hongkong-ic.dining.intercontinental.com Part of the sushi “chain”. Good harbour views, especially at window tables. Very expensive. Spoon Intercontinental Hotel 18 Salisbury Road Kowloon Tel: 2721 1211 http://hongkong-ic.dining.intercontinental.com Alain Ducassse restaurant. French and Asian-fusion. Quite expensive. Ye Shanghai Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel Harbour City, Kowloon Tel: 2376-3322 One Michelin star at the Kowloon branch. Excellent Shanghainese food. This restaurant has two outlets, one on Hong Kong Island and one on the Kowloon side. The Pacific Place one is sleek and modern, the Marco Polo Hotel one is more pre-war Shanghai. There is no view, although there is a bit of a street view in the Pacific Place one. They also have a branch in the Xiantiandini area in Shanghai. Nanhai No.1 30th Floor iSQUARE Shopping Centre 63 Nathan Road Tsim Sha Tsui Tel: 2487-3688 http://www.elite-concepts.com One Michelin star. Cantonese seafood and other specialties (esp tea leaf smoked chicken) in a modern setting with a really lovely harbour view. They have a bar with an outdoor space with a great view as well. Undiscovered by tourists (as of yet) this may be a better option than Hutong (although Hutong’s view is more unobstructed and all tables have a good view). There is a charge for a window table which IMO is worth it. Aqua/ Hutong One Peking Road Tel: 3428-8342 www.aqua.com.hk Hutong has one Michelin star. There are three restaurants at this location: an Italian (AquaRoma), a Sichuan Chinese (Hutong) and a Japanese (AquaTokyo), all with great views. Hutong is the more touristy. For Hutong, you do not need a window table (for which there is a minimum charge); any of the tables offer a nice view (they have booths along the wall which are quite nice for a group IMO). The Hutong group has a wooden junk which does trips including afternoon/cocktail tours of the harbour which are a good way to see the sights, and also do weekend trips out or back to Stanley, which would be a nice option as a one-way trip out or back from Stanley. The boat is called the Aqua Luna. Spring Deer Restaurant (Peking Duck/Northern Chinese) 42 Mody Road Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Tel: 2366-4012 One Michelin star. Although a little bit touristy, it has good Peking Duck IMO. Harbourside Intercontinental Hotel 18 Salisbury Road Tel: 2721 1211 http://hongkong-ic.dining.intercontinental.com This is the hotel’s casual coffee shop restaurant. Stunning views. This is a good fireworks choice restaurant. They have Asian and Western dishes, sandwiches, salads, etc and a huge buffet. Can please every taste. Open late. Good for pleasing a crowd. Generally do not need a booking. Cucina Marco Polo Hotel TST Kowloon Tel: 2113-0808 http://www.cucinahk.com/ This has a very nice harbour view, serves good Italian food AND Cantonese food as well (some other Chinese as well). They have dim sum. Pierside Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers 33 Canton Road Tel: 2738-2398 http://www.sino-hotels.com/The_Royal...n/default.aspx This is on the top floor of the hotel, and has a good harbour view, although some of the finer views of Central are blocked by higher buildings The menu is Western-Asian fusion. They have brunch and this is a nice place for it with good views on a sunny day. Kung Tak Lam (Shanghainese vegetarian) 7th Floor 1 Peking Rd Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Tel: 2312-7800 Very good although on the expensive side. The one in TST is in the same building as Hutong, and has a bit of a view, although it is on a much lower flow. House of Jasmine Shop 401, Level 4 Ocean Centre Harbour City Mall TST Kowloon (at the Star Ferry) Tel: 2992-0232 http://www.maxims.com.hk/en/index.asp Cantonese. Has a nice outdoor terrace with good western harbour views. In summer outdoors it might be quite hot as it gets the full Western sun. There are several other restaurants on this podium level, most with outdoor space that might be worth a look. Al Molo BLT Steak Both Ground Floor, Ocean Terminal (waterfront opposite Star Ferry) Harbour City Shopping Center The attraction of both places is the superb view from the windows and decks which are only slightly marred by the Star Ferry piers. A deck seat or an inside table nearest the deck is really why you come; the food is good but I don't think I would travel here if you could not get a view table. Not expensive. Lunch dinner, or evening drinks to watch the lights come up over the city. Sorabol 4th Floor, Miramar Shopping Centre 132 Nathan Road TST, Kowloon Tel: 2375 2882 Sorabol.com.hk Korean barbeque, really good and not expensive. Noisy and brightly lit, so don’t expect ambience, but good food and fun. Expect to pay about HK$150 a person for a very filling meal of several types of beef, noodles. Have the beef on the bone. The kimchi pancake is very good too. Branto 9-11 Lock Road 1st Floor Kowloon Tel: -2366-8171 This is a sister restaurant to Khana Khazana. This is behind the Penn. Even more modest than the Khan Khazana, but very good food. The menu also has things like grilled cheese and pizza for people who may not like Indian food. Woodlands Upper Ground Floor 16-17 Wing On Plaza 62 Mody Road Tsim Sha Tsui East Kowloon Tel: 2369-3718 Vegetarian. This is just across the street from the Kowloon Shangri-la. Very modest in décor. Very good food and prices. Thalis start at HK$60, dosas and most other entrees average about HK$40. Take the MTR and get out at the Mody Road stop, door P2. Mido Café 64 Temple Street (corner of Public Square Street, across from Tin Hau Temple) Yau Ma Tei, Kowloon Tel: 2657-6460 This is semi-famous and is in a very lovely, if slightly crumbling, art deco building. This one has an English menu of sorts. Sit upstairs for a view of the square and the Tin Hau temple; this shops is a good location to start or end of walk of the Shanghai Street area or the Jade Market. Spare Ribs Baked Rice is their specialty, but they have a pretty extensive menu. (Some of the meat is Spam, so you may want to be become a vegetarian here.) I don’t think you would pay more than HK$50 for any dish. Try the milk tea too. |
Cicerone: Thank you so much for the very extensive restaurant list. This will come in handy for our trip this summer.
|
I would recommend Sangeetha Restaurant which is in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon where you could find authentic vegetarian foods at budget prices. Anyone who visits must try with Dhosa, Mini Tiffin and Vegetarian Thali. Perfect destination for Veggie lovers. http://sangeetha.com.hk/

Wow, Cicerone, wish we had had your list. We stayed at the Intercontinental on a work trip and most of our time was planned in advance. Also the breakfasts were so elaborate and comprehensive that we rarely were hungry until much later in the day and usually skipped lunch. Here's where we went in the area:
NOBU Wouldn't normally eat Japanese in HK, especially because we were about to go to Tokyo, but I couldn't resist trying Nobu because we're fans of the one in Malibu. Went early, sat at the sushi bar and was served by Nobu Matsuhisa himself! Not surprisingly, the sushi was superior in HK. YAH TOH HEEN (the 2 star Michelin Chinese restaurant in the Intercontinental) Went there the night we arrived because we were too tired to explore. Still dreaming about a tofu dish we had. Also ate at Lung King Heen (3 Micheline stars in the Four Seasons). Both were very good but I'm not certain the Michelin star system works for Chinese food. If we returned we would probably go back to YTH. CHI LIN NUNNERY Quick cab or metro ride. Had dim sum and more in the vegetarian restaurant in the middle of the gardens. A must do. PENINSULA Went to a private event there. Agree that you must check out the bathroom. BOBA Can't remember the name, but stopped in for my daily boba fix at a cool minimal decor place at the Ferry Terminal. PEKING DUCK Couldn't get into Spring Deer and found another place around the corner with no sign in English - lots of locals, noisy, fun AGNES B CAFE If you need your European fix of latte and pastries, this is the place |
