Hong Kong Questions
 

I am planning a trip to Hong Kong next week and would like some help. First of all I heard somewhere that shared shuttle busses are available from the airport directly to your hotel for about HK$140. After flying for 15 hrs I really dont want to take the train then try and walk from the central station on Hong Kong Island to my hotel. <BR>Also a friend recommended the Wesley Hotel on Hong Kong Island, any one ever stayed here? <BR>Any other help would be great, such as do's and dont's and good places to eat. <BR> <BR>Thanks Much! <BR> <BR>David

Dear David: Many of the expensive hotels, i.e. Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, Regent, etc. provide free transport from the airport. You can get a shuttle from Chap Lok Cok (sp?) into Kowloon or Hong Kong for about $17 US. After you clear customs with your luggage you will see signs for ground transportation in the arrivals area. It is very easy and convenient. I highly recommend it. It is cheaper to take the train, but such a hassle. And really, what is $17? John G.

I think this reply will be too late to help the original poster, but it's a common question, so here goes: <BR> <BR>It's easy, easy, easy to take the train into the city (Kowloon or HK side). As soon as you exit the luggage area, there are signs directing you to the trains, which are just across the arrival hall (very close). The trains are extremely clean and nice and will drop you in the center of Kowloon or HK, where you can very easily take a taxi. IMO, this is the most convenient and affordable way to get into town. <BR> <BR>If booking a "private" shuttle, car, or limo pick up, be SURE to verify whether or not it's really private. Otherwise, you run the risk of WAITING and WAITING and WAITING for the other passengers to be ready to go. Other flights, lost luggage, slow people - can be very frustrating.

Dear Andrea: I took the shuttle into Hung Hom and I didn't wait more than 10 minutes. It wasn't private, however. There were about 4 other people on my bus. The bus was very comfortable and I really enjoyed the ride.

It's just a risk - one I've been annoyed by a couple of times in the past & now always check to avoid.
