Hong Kong March Shopping Trip Bonanza!
Hi All,
Me and my girlfriend are stopping for 2 nights (3 full days) in Hong Kong for a mad shopping/sightseeing visit. We want to spend not far off £100 per night and wanted to get some tips of a great area to stay in, even a great hotel? Is Kowloon a good area to stay in? Anyone have any opinions of the Harbour Plaza hotel in Kowloon? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Corey |
I always stay in Kowloon. I love the view of Hong Kong from there, and the walk along the Promenade. I haven't seen the rooms in the Harbor Plaza, so can't comment on that hotel.

You are referring to Harbour Plaza Metropolis at Hung Hom? It's located at Tsim Sha Tsui East opposite the KCR Hung Hom station. There's train services going to Shenzhen, Guangzhou from there. To get to Tsim Sha Tsui area, there's a free shuttle which operates every 20 minutes. By foot about 15 minutes. A 5 minute walk from the promenade. Some rooms have view of the harbour. There's a small mall connected to the hotel containing some small restaurants and food court. It's ok but would suggest looking for a hotel nearer the Nathan Road area. A hotel I usually stay in is the Pruton Prudential Hotel which is linked to a mall (what else?). In the basement there's an entrance to the Jordan MTR station. Across the road nearby is Temple street market. Lots of food around. No harbour view though. |
KMLoke: We stayed there in 1999, it is a very convenient location, and we liked the breakfast in the hotel. We still have their unique-looking long orange pen on our kitchen counter, yes, it lasted 7 years writing grocery lists!

The Harbor Plaza is NOT convenient for shopping or sightseeing.
For your money, you should be able to get something in a better location. You will not get the same grade of hotel in Central or Tsimshatsui, but the Langham Place in Mongkok is usually priced close to the Harbour Plaza. Much more convenient. The Harbour Plaza is not the same as the Metropolis. |
Agree with Rkkwan Langham Place is much better location. There's LOTS of shopping and food around any time of the day or night. There's another Harbour Plaza at Whampoa which is even less convenient. Although there's lots of shopping and restaurants there. There's another hotel managed by the group called Kowloon Hotel which is located behind the Peninsula. This would be better. Don't know about the price though. |
