Hong Kong Layover

I am flying to Hanoi in March and will have a layover in Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific from 0730 to 1800. I see you can catch the monorail from the airport to the Central Station and walk to the lifts to Victoria Peak. I would also like to ride the Sky Trams to see the giant Buddah. Is all this possible on that layover? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

Take Bus S1 from HK airport to Tung Chung MRT station.

Look for signs for Ngong Ping 360 upon getting off, that's the Sky Tram to see the giant buddha.

From Tung Chung MRT station, take orange subway line and get off at the last stop, Hong Kong/Central station.

The long elevator in Central does not go up to Victoria Peak.
The Peak Tramway does.

Look for the exit and signs for the Peak Tramway before getting out from Hong Kong/Central station.

Take the Peak Tramway to Victoria Peak one way or round trip.
You can take a public mini bus ride down from Victoria Peak to Central District.

Going back to the airport from Central.
Take MRT airport express or public bus #A11 or #A12 at Statue Square.

The trip takes around 5 to 7 hours.

Wow, nice, thanks for the info. I am so glad to be able to do both activities.

The NP360 Cable Car doesn't start until 10am in the morning on weekdays. Weekend is 9am.

On the other hand, the Peak Tram opens at 7am.

Therefore you should reverse your trip, and go to the city first. Take the Airport Express (it's regular train, not monorail) to Hong Kong station. You can walk (make sure you have a good map - the route is not that apparent) to the lower Peak Tram station, or you can take the shuttle bus #15C near the Star Ferry Pier close to the AE station.

After you come back down, you have to choices to go to the Big Buddha.

1. Go back to the Hong Kong MTR station (same place where you get off the Airport Express), but don't take the Airport Express. Instead, take the MTR Tung Chung Line to Tung Chung. Then do the NP360 cable car.

Or:

2. Go to Pier #6 and take the ferry to Mui Wo. http://www.nwff.com.hk/ At Mui Wo, connect to bus #2 to Ngong Ping.

Either way, you go back to Tung Chung by NP360 cable car (or you can take bus #23 if you took the cable car up). Then S1 shuttle bus back to HKG.

That's good.
You would have time to enjoy the most typical Hong Kong cuisine, "dim sum", or “yum cha” in the morning before heading to NP360.

There are a couple of excellent dim sum restaurants in Tung Chung, right next to the S1 bus stop.

The Easterngate restaurant in Citygate shopping center and Fu Tung restaurant in Fu Tung shopping Center.

There are also Delifrance Cafe and Pacific Coffee in Citygate, both places are wi fi friendly.

You still have plenty of time to enjoy and make your way back to the airport before 4:00 pm..

All times are GMT -8. The time now is 01:24 PM.
