Hong Kong Island Hotels - Far From Central

In 2012 we visited the Marriott Courtyard for a 4 days stopover in Hong Kong. We had a Harbour View corner suite and consider that it was great value. While the Club Lounge was a little dark and depressing, over all we had a good stay and particularly enjoyed walking the area betrween there and Central. It was also a good location to take a walking trip down from the Peak. We are planning another stopover in Hong Kong for four days enroute to Europe. Again we are looking for something different and away from Central. I noticed that there are a few hotels around Kennedy Town/Telegraph Bay area. Alternatively we might try Bishop Lei's or another alternative up in the mid-levels. If all else fails there is always the marriott Courtyard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated particularly given that a few new places have appeared since we were last there. Thank you.

When's your trip? Subway trains will be extended to Kennedy Town at end of 2014 or early 2015. Otherwise, you may find yourself wasting time on commute.

Expect rates at hotels near the new stations to go up significantly, including the Courtyard.

I stayed at Bisheop Lei my last visit to HK and enjoyed riding the mid-level escalators. There is also a hotel shuttle bus I used several times. My room was quite small, but believe there are bigger ones available - as I remember I went for the cheapest.

Bishop Lei is definately on the list to consider and there are some well priced larger rooms there. We wonder about the Meridien and other options in Telegraph Bay for a change. We do enjoy walking and adventuring.

No one calls that area Telegraph Bay anymore. Just Cyberport. Nice area but not convenient and nothing of particular interest to a visitor.

Totally agree rkkwan. At first Telegraphy Bay/Cyberport looked like a great place to start hiking toward Aberdeen,or up through the area of the reservoirs and the Peak. It is a bit far though from the new subway stop at Kennedy Town. It looks like back to the Marriott for us. I cant justify paying the high prices for the hotels we used to stay at near Queensway. I like to remember Hong Kong as it was before the retail obsession took hold
