Hong Kong Hotels

I am looking at hotels in Hong Kong and there are so many options! For a doorman/security-conscious, budget-conscious, good neighborhood girl, does anyone have a recommendation for a hotel or neighborhood where I will feel comfortable, happy and safe?

Fodor travellers' favorite is YMCA Salisbury in TST. It is basically an excellent hotel at a low rate. But in general, all HK hotels are good in terms of security and neighborhood. The only tricky part is how much you want to pay. But I believe this YMCA fits most people's need easily. Good luck.

I suppose you should stay in the Tsimshatsui neighborhood on the Kowloon side, but not on Nathan Rd (in other words don't stay at the Kowloon, Holiday Inn Golden Mile, or the Hyatt Regency). I am not slamming these hotels, it's just that Nathan Rd touts can get very aggressive and that doesn't sound like your cuppa tea. Perhaps the Marco Polo Hong Kong or Renaissance New World would be to your liking.

Be sure to look at asia-hotels.com if you are going to book ahead of time. I feel like I got a pretty good deal at the hotels we are going to stay at in the next couple weeks.
