Hong Kong guest houses

Are these places the same as a bed and breakfast? Has anyone had use one of this while in Hong Kong? I just started doing some planning for my trip to HK in 3 weeks and I seem to have more questions than answers.
Thanks for your help.

They don't provide breakfast. They are small hotels that occupy part of a large multi-use buildings. Some may take up a couple of floors, some only part of a floor. You will be sharing elevators and sometimes hallways with the other users of the same building.

Some large buildings like Chungking Mansion or Mirador Mansion in Tsimshatsui have dozens of these guesthoues and many other businesses running there.

In general, they are not the nicest places to stay; but depending on budget, you may have no other choices.
