Hong Kong - Booth Lodge?

Does anyone know anything about the Booth Lodge, just off Nathan Road?
(See http://boothlodge.salvation.org.hk)

Nobody familiar with Booth Lodge?

Then I'd appreciate any comments on the location: "Only 2-minutes walk away from the Yau Ma Tei MTR station. Our Lodge is just off Nathan Road, on and above the seventh floor of our Hong Kong & Macau Command Headquarter Building. About a 30-minutes walk to the Star Ferry. Close to the Jade market, the Temple Street Night Market and the Ladies Clothing Market."

What's your main interest in HK? That would more determine where you would want to stay.

Shop in malls? Shop in street markets? Visit temples? Business?

First visit to HK, staying 6 nights, husband and wife, early fifties, general sightseeing, trips to islands, shopping not important (husband speaking).

Don't know about the facilites, but the location is indeed pretty good. I think it may be more like 3-4 minutes to the MTR Entrance, not 2. Extremely frequent buses up and down Nathan Road to go to Star Ferry or up to Mong Kok (requires crossing Nathan Road if you're going North); plus very frequent cross-tunnel buses to Hong Kong Island if you want to try something other than the Star Ferry and MTR.

The area is clean and safe, and is actually relatively quiet (compared to the stretches of Nathan Road in Mong Kok or Tsimshatsui).

It is also next to the Caritas Bianchi Lodge, so check out that one too.

Thanks rkkwan, most appreciated.
I've checked out the Caritas Bianchi Lodge on various review sites but the Booth Lodge seems better and have just sent off for a quote.

Agree with RKK, the MTR looks more like a 5 minute walk but, in general, not a bad location.

And for the wife, 2 major markets are fairly nearby.

If trips to outlying islands are really high on your list, you might want to stay on Hong Kong Island or in Tsim Sha Tsui West (near the Star Ferry pier). Ferries to outlying islands all depart from the piers in Central on Hong Kong Island. Being on Hong Kong Island or a short walk from the Star Ferry to Central will save you some time and money if you are gong to be catching ferries to outlying islands each day (and more importantly heading back to your hotel at the end of the day. Also, the majority of your sightseeing will be on Hong Kong Island, so staying on the island is a little more convenient (although the Star Ferry is the best ride in the world, IMO.)

I had responded to an earlier message from you on hotel suggestions in the US$50 -100 range on Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, let me know if you want me to re-post my response.

Thanks for your additional contribution Cicerone. I made a note of your advice on my previous posting and will try to get to the Happy Valley racetrack!
Your advice re hotels started me off looking at the YMCA (for it's view) but Booth Lodge is half the price and includes breakfast! Bishop Lei was another contender, priced between the other two. Looking forward to the Star Ferry trips anyway, so I think we'll stay with Booth Lodge.

I just got back from Hong Kong, and both the Bianci and the Booth are directly opposite the A12 bus stop where I waited for my ride to the airport. I still don't know about the facilities, but the Salvation Army building does seem to look a bit newer than the Caritas building, if that makes a difference to you. And it is a few steps closer to Nathan Road than Bianchi.

Bishop Lei is much newer, and should have a view. The area is residential, and Central is just a few minutes walk - straight down. You'd want to take the bus, a taxi, or the hotel shuttle going up. The mid-levels escalators aren't that convenient for the Bishop Lei, and keep in mind that there's only one set of escalators there, and it runs downhill in the morning, uphill in the afternoon.

Again, there are extremely frequent buses on Nathan Road to go to the Star Ferry from Bianchi/Booth, and takes only about 15 minutes.

Thanks rkkwan, that confirms our preference for Booth Lodge.

Just want to correct myself that the airport bus to/from Booth/Bianchi is A21, not 12. HK$33. That'd be the easiest and one of the cheapest way if you decide to stay there.
