Hong Kong Activities
My new wife and I will be in Hong Kong shortly and will be taking US dollars. Where is a good place to exchange money and what is the exchange rate? Any special activities recommended. What will the weather be like? We will be traveling late November.

There are lots of currency exchange booths on the street etc. Shop around for the best going rate. The rate will change daily. Look in your local newspaper business section or google "foreign currency" on line for the current rate.

However, I prefer to use an ATM card to get local currency which is debited directly from my checking account.

Have you found out what daily costs are expected to be? Auntie M.

Check www.oanda.com for information on the exchange rate. This is simple, however, as the HK$ and US$ have been pegged at the US$1 = HK$7.8 for many years now. You are likely to get small deviations from this, however, depending on where you exchange money.

In my opinion, the best place to exchange US$ is at the banks, HSBC is the largest one. Avoid hotels as usual.

I am a citizen in Hong Kong. I hope that I can help you. Our government fixed the official exchange rate to USD1=HK$7.80. You can exchange the currency in the banks, it's much more safe, local banks, foreign banks(US,UK,Singapore...), rate (check the cash rate, not TT rate)are almost the same. All you have to pay is the handling fee, around HK$20-50.
Weather is fine during winter time. Relative Humidity around 50% or lower, temp around 20C or below, dry and cool. It's good time to travel here.
