honeymoon in Thailand-help
 

Thinking of going to Thailand for our honeymoon in early part of June. Know its beginning of rainy season. any thoughts on itinerary? First time to Asia. Thinking of Bangkok for 2-3 days, then maybe up to Chiang Mai and then over to a beach area-maybe Koh Samui? Looking for some quiet down beach time, along with adventure, sightseeing. Young couple in late twenties-like to be kept busy. Hiking, biking, rafting, etc. Better to go to Phakut area?? Not really much into partying, or crowds but like to walk around area at night and have some good restaurants. How about Koh Tao? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. If I was you I'd lock myself in a hotel room for a week with my new bride. LoL.

Ok joke aside....

If you like biking....there are plenty of cycling groups in Bangkok now. They organise rides all the time and this is a good way to see the city. Just google "bangkok cycling clubs". Thailand is really not the adventure capital of the world (not good safety record either). I'd save that for a trip to say, Queenstown in New Zealand.

Phuket - contrary to what many think, Phuket is easy to get to and it is a good (but relatively expensive) destination. You don't have to stay at/on the party beach like Pataong. There are many other quiet areas like Nai Yang, Kata, and Karon. Lots of good restaurants every where. Koh Samui is more expensive to get to (flight) and unless you want to spend a week or more there, I don't think it is worth spending the money to get there.

As for rain in June - tropical storms comes about twice a day. Although it can be heavy, it is usually quick - about an hour and then it is all over, leaving you to get on with your day.

i love the jw marriott at khao lak, 1 hour drive north from phuket airport... fantastic for honeymoon..

We stayed in Koi Samui for our honeymoon and we are similar age. We had great time with clean beach hotel, short taxi into the main hub in the evenings for dinner, entertainment, shopping etc.

Koi Samui is a great place to relax for a few days with friendly hotel staff. Also plenty to do if you want an active day between rests. We went to the animal park, lots of shows and the highlight was riding on elephants through the parks. There are other things to do such as seeing the temples and water activities.

There are great restaurants on the island for romantic honeymoon dates. Give me a shout if you need further information. I'd be delighted to help, we really enjoyed our time there and understand how important and special honeymoon holidays are.

Meant to say, we went the last fortnight in June and the weather was fantastic. Can't imagine the weather being much different during the start of June.

thanks everyone! Mysights where did you stay in Koh Saumi? And did you go to any other island like Koh Tao, etc ?

We loved Chiang Mai and had three nights. I wish I'd added one more day. Fun shopping, dining, elephants, incredible wats. It was awesome! So many places to choose in Samui, I wish you the best in choosing--we did Krabi. Regardless, you'll have a blast!
