Honeymoon in SE Asia Ideas?

Hi all!

I'm planning our honeymoon for Southeast Asia in march-April of next year.

We only have a week or so that we can spend (aside from travel days to/from the US) and we will either need to start or end in Hanoi due to a work obligation.

We'd like to go to another country aside from Vietnam for at least 3 days or so, since we'll be in Vietnam for work already.

We both are SCUBA divers so we'd love to go somewhere we can dive (I wish the Maldives were closer!!).

Any suggestions are welcome!

Thanks!

Cambodia would be a nice side trip from Hanoi - go to Siem Reap and visit the temples at Angkor.

While Thailand is very popular for honeymoons, April is the absolute hottest month of the year.

I'm not a diver, but I do know there are places in VN to dive. With just a week, it would be a good idea to stick to just one country. There is plenty to do and see in VN to keep you busy and interested.

Indonesia has some spectacular dive sites. Parts of Sulawesi and Raja Ampat in West Papua are world class, on a par with the Maldives.

Bali also has some very good diving and would make a wonderful honeymoon destination. I don't think there are non-stops from Bali to Hanoi, but it's an easy connection on AirAsia and other regional airlines.

Some dive spots Indonesia are more accessible than others, but flights are plentiful and not expensive. For example you can fly non-stop on Silk Air from Singapore to Manado in north Sulawesi close to the dive sites in Bunaken Island and the Lembeh Strait. Look at Kungkungan Bay Resort.

In South Sulawesi look at Wakatobi. In Raja Ampat, liveaboards. Seatrek if it's in your budget.

The best place for diving in Vietnam would be the Con Dao Islands in the south. To get there would mean connecting via Saigon. Decent dive conditions in March not quite so good in April.

Nha Trang also has some decent dive sites. A long time since I have been, but from what I gather it is now a party town and possibly not the place for a honeymoon.

You don’t mention what sort of accomodation you are looking for but Six Senses In Con Dao is a very highly rated luxury hotel.

The problem with Hanoi is that it will take quite a long time to get anywhere with decent diving. I would expect Sulawesi or Bali to take 10 hours plus eachway via KL or Singapore - a huge chunk of your time. You could probably get to te Maldives in the same sort of time - Air Asia fly there via KL. Even Thailand’s Andaman coast which has some good dive sites is going to take quite some time and at least one flight connection.

As Kathie suggests, Angkor In Cambodia would make a nice, albeit very hot, side trip and there are some fab hotels there. You could combine it with a trip to the coast, but not sure about te diving. There are some very nice lux resorts now available there. Sons Saa private island springs to mind - although I have no idea how much that might cost!

For your honeymoon trip in March/April you want to be where there is sunshine...so Langkawi or Koh Samui would be best.

Head to Bali and try to get to the Nusa or Gili islands. The Nusa islands (Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan, and Nusa Lembongan) are only a half-hour boat ride away from Bali, and while they are small and quiet, they have beautiful landscapes and beaches. I can't comment on the diving since I didn't dive here, but many shops and companies were spread out throughout all three islands.

Gili islands are a popular side-trip from Bali. Great beaches and diving, but a farther boat ride (~4 hours).

Hi!

I think you should consider going to Coron Palawan It's one of the best diving spots in Asia with affordable price range. You can also check out this page for travel deals in the Philippines.

Hope this helps!

Enjoy.
