Honeymoon Ideas in Bali?
 

We originally were considering Cook Islands as our honeymoon location however after we got the price quote plans have changed..Does anyone have a few good ideas for our 2 week honeymoon this Nov in Bali?
We would like to spend part of the vacation in a 4-5 star resort on the beach and then rest of the trip a beach front bungalow.
Our criteria includes:
- beautifull beaches
- great snorkeling
- beginner surf
- culture/resteraunts
Looks like alot of different regions within Bali so any help to narrow down our search is very much appreciated!!

So all of your time at the beach? November is the beginning of the rainy season in Bali. I always go in the rainy season, so it doesn't bother me, but if you are the sort of person who would feel their vacation was ruined by intense episodes of rain every afternoon or even a few rainy days, you might want to reconsider.

Also, Bali isn't really a great snorkeling location.

Most people prefer to split their time between the beach and an inland location near Ubud, overlooking the rice terraces and the river valley.

You can access Bali's unique culture all over the island, but the cultural center of Bali is Ubud. You'll want a car and driver for some of the days you are there.

There are many, many posts here about Bali - do read some of them to give you more information and some ideas.

Also, do get yourself a good guidebook and read about the various areas of Bali and some of the special cultural events.

If you are put off Bali by the beginning of rainy season and the good (but not spectacular) beaches and the lack of snorkeling you might want to consider Thailand instead. This isn't meant to discourage you from Bali which is a wonderful, unique, cultural experience, but given that you wanted to go to the Cook Islands, I wonder if you are looking for someplace with more spectacular beaches than Bali.

I'd agree with Kathie's comments. She usually puts in a plug for Lombok as good beach alternative to Bali, but she seems to missed have it this time. :)

I think you're probably aware that beaches that are good for surfing are not good for snorkling. Bali has a lot of good surf beaches and several surf schools for beginners.

There are some good snorkling/SCUBA opportunities, but they are more special destinations than resort areas.

There are many, many 4 & 5 star beach resorts. Once you've had a chance to review the various beach areas and decide which suits you best, you will lots of choices.

I like The Legian in Seminyak beach. Seminyak is a long sandy bigwave beach, with access to lots of shops, spas, clubs and restaurants.

If you're imagining a beach bungalow on a deserted, white sandy beach with clear turquoise water, Bali's not the place. Bali's best beaches are big wave and lively. You might take a look at Lombok, the Gili islands -- or another country.

There are rental villas all over Bali. Those with beach views tend to be on the cliffs overlooking the sea. There are dozens in the Seminyak area -- a short walk from the beach, not right on the water. Some are free standing, some are parts of resort complexes. Villa living -- with private pool and a full staff at your service -- is a terrific way to experience Bali beach life.

Definitely devote part of your honeymoon to Ubud. This is the cultural heart of Bali and for many this turns out to be the highlight of the trip. Again, there are plenty of choices from well know names like the Four Seasons to intimate places like Kayumanis. I'd look at Como Shambhala to start.

lol, marmot, I thought I'd wait to offer up Lombok until we see if the honeymooners can tolerate the rainy season.
