Honeymoon help - Thailand 2010
 

My best friends are getting married next year in June and they are thinking about going to Thailand on their honeymoon (after we have been banging on about Thailand for years)
Bit of background they are both mid 30's and do NOT want to tour Thailand they primarily want a beach destination. There budget isn't high end but would think £150 max per night ( I haven't worked out the actual anticipated spend yet on hotels) but i have suggested a few days in BKK (with Tong for 1 or 2) and then onto the beach bit.
As its June i was thinking Koh Samui? I have never been so can't recommend anywhere (although i will do tons of research for them) but wondered what your suggestions would be? they have also NEVER been to S E Asia before so wouldn't want anything to intrepid as its A) their Honeymoon B) it would freak them out.
Suggestions please, am thinking tropical paradise.........

For 150 quids a night it's very doable for June in Samui and will probably get your friends lovely rooms or villas as well. Two nights in Bangkok and then the rest of the time in Samui would be very nice.

If you want to gamble with the weather they could try Phuket or Krabi as well. June is the beginning of the low season and they should be able to get nice rooms and villas in the 5 star hotels there. Same goes for Hua Hin but that's not as exotic but could be rewarding since it's not too far from Bangkok in case there's some type of a prolonged storm.

I thought about HH as we LOVED it but i think i would rather limit the gamble with the weather for them (although of course i know no guarantees apply)
I think the hotels in BK should be cheaper too in June? so am hoping to be able to work in the Oriental for them!!
Anywhere you can recommend in KS Hanuman (being the man who gets to go to ALL the lovely places)

There are many here who visit Samui more than I do! My primary interest there is Golf as I don't find the beaches there too nice. I believe there is a Four Seasons there now and many more 5 star properties in the past few years built as well.

Good luck and I'm sure some Samui expert will chime in!

Hotel rates in Bangkok don't vary as much on the season as the beaches, but you will get some good deals. Best get them into the Mariott or ROS, I guess.

Samui can be pretty good in June. Chance of rain, of course, but it's still probably the best bet. There is the Four Seasons, and the Renaissance gets rave reviews. You can probably get either for that price in June. Lots more options, of course.

Four seasons is running to £345 a night (which includes 2 free nights!!!!) looks gorgeous but i know they won't run to that. Will check out the renaissance. Also like the look of Amari Reef resort and Six senses? location any good does any one know? (assume we should avoid Chaweng area?)
Am thinking of looking at Bali for them also.

I LOVED HH but as i said not sure its what my friends are looking for for their honeymoon.

Further to the above post - 2 nights at the M.O. Bangkok, 2 nights in Chiang Mai or the tented camp and then 2 nights in Samui in a villa. Pretty nice honeymoon IMO!

They can probably extend the Samui portion at a reduced rate as well if 2 nights is not enough.

The Six Senses is in a pretty good location, but I'm not sure about the beach there (eg if there is one).

Anantara is good. Beach so-so but it is just at the far end of Fisherman's Village, so you're spoiled for choice for places to eat.

The Amari is at the far end of Chaweng, a little away from the craziness but near enough to walk to some nice restaurants. I stayed at the Muang Kulaypan - next to the Amari - a few months ago, and it was very nice. You could probably get a top-end room there for the budget.
