Honeymoon help
Hello, My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon and are very seriously considering Thailand. We've done some research but are looking for some advice on specific destinations, hotels, activities, etc. We definitely want to spend some time relaxing on a beach but are also interested in some degree of activity -- elephant treks, sea kayaking and whatnot. We are both relatively well-traveled people but have never been to Southeast Asia. We're looking to spend about 2 weeks in Thailand and our budget is relatively flexible. Some ideas: are Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Phuket, Krabi / Ko Lanta and Bangkok. Help! Many thanks in advance.

Time of year/month?

If you have two full weeks on the ground in Thailand, you have time for as many as three destinations. The traditional circuit is Bangkok, a beach (which one depends on time of the year and what kind of beach experience you are looking for) and a location in Northern Thailand or a visit to the Temples of Angkor in Cambodia.

Sorry for not clarifying... We'll be there late March / early April. Thanks.

Angkor will be a bit too hot at that time of year, IMO. Weather-wise, you're safe just about every where you could go. You listed Ko Tao as a possibility but didn't list diving in activities. Do you dive? If not, there's not really anything else to do on Ko Tao. I think Krabi may fit you best (Ko Lanta may be a bit too far from activities such as kayaking). Have you thought about Ko Chang? I only bring it up because there are some really nice places there, that can run a bit less than Krabi.
Away from the sea, Chiang Mai will be a little hot, so maybe have a look at the Anantara or Four Seasons Tented Resort in the Golden Triangle area. |
