Holiday Time Again!

Greetings from the much improved Thai Airways first class lounge. I'm off for another holiday to Europe and will be back in a couple of weeks. Just want to report on the lounge and the spa at the airport - it's wonderful! Very skillful masseuse and the 1 hour treatment in a superb spa room with overflowing bath and L'Occitane products.

The only downside is the food. Still sub standard when compared to other flagship first class lounges but the service is incredible.

Bye for now!

ekscrunchy Sep 8th, 2009 08:23 AM

Let me by the first to wish you Bon Voyage! Keep an eye out for Jack B. And remember, "loose lips sink ships," so keep the files close to the chest.

kuranosuke Sep 8th, 2009 08:32 AM

hanuman, have a good trip, and see you in a couple of months.

filmwill Sep 8th, 2009 09:16 AM

have a great trip, Pook!

Have a great time! Hope to see you sometime this year in BKK!

>>>The only downside is the food. Still sub standard when compared to other flagship first class lounges<<<

(A certain SQ SKL F lounge, perchance!? ... (And, immediate apologies for yet another shameless Singapore Airlines promo.)

Glad you enjoyed that rather special TG BKK 'spa'. Have always had the finest experiences with those masseuses and 'baths' (TG F to HKG and NRT, in my case) and if all was going particularly well, a certain SQ bird sighting, sipping 'tea', post-massage.

Keep this thread going; do consider SQ R ex-SIN in future; and this SIA loyalist wishes safe travel and all the best to monkey god! (And your lovely family.)

Have fun, Pook.

great to talk to you last nite....bon voyage to you and the boss...

Kathie Sep 8th, 2009 05:15 PM

How about champagne? What's the champagne in the Thai First Class Lounge?

Have a wonderful trip!

Hanuman Sep 9th, 2009 01:12 AM

Hello from beautiful Lucerne!

Thank you all for your kind wishes. The weather is just lovely, mid 20s C and bright blue sky!

Kathie,

The lounge champagne was very disappointing! Moet Chandon only but as soon as we boarded the plane we had Dom vintage 2000. Service and food on the Thai flight was better than expected. 3 servings of caviar and they even put more caviar on my breakfast eggs!

Must go out and enjoy the city so later guys!

Gpanda Sep 9th, 2009 01:15 AM

I can just see Pook playing Baccarat at the casino in his Tuxedo a la Jamed Bond. Shaken, not stirred. Watch out for the agents of SPECTRA, they are the sworn enemies of Fodorites.

simpsonc510 Sep 9th, 2009 04:04 AM

Ah, Lucerne. One of my favorite cities in the world (but of course BKK is #1). Will do doubt be there in early Dec. Enjoy!

Hanuman Sep 9th, 2009 05:00 AM

Aw.. I need a nap and it's only 3.00 PM! Carol, Luzern is beautiful and we are only here for 3 nights and then it's off to Wengen for another 3 nights and then Zermatt for 3 more nights. Probably go to London after that if we are not too home sick!

Gpanda,

I'm more of a Clouseau than a Bond!

simpsonc510 Sep 9th, 2009 05:04 AM

I haven't been to Wengen, but I enjoyed Zermatt. Switzerland is beautiful. We are always there in the early spring and the very late fall. The mountain passes are never open, so we end up tunneling everywhere... have you ever been on one of the car-trains thru a tunnel? Interesting! Drive onto the flat car, turn off the motor, and ride! Love it! (but I'd prefer a nice sunny mountain view)

Have a great time. Say hello to those contented Swiss cows, should you see any. We stayed at a lovely inn in Interlaken once, and the cows (bells ringing) were right across the stream. We heard them every morning.

don't let the lion bit, but then he is more like the tigers at the thai tiger temple

Hanuman Sep 9th, 2009 07:19 AM

One of my mission as assigned to me by a friend is to relieve a cow of it's bell and bring it back as souvenir. Do Swiss farmers have shotgun?

crellston Sep 9th, 2009 07:59 AM

Do Swiss farmers have shotgun? - Probably not., but those swiss bankers will empty your secret numbered account in the blink of an eye in retribution for any cow/bell related offences!

rhkkmk Sep 9th, 2009 08:52 AM

clive, good observation....

hanuman is thai, he would NEVER have a swiss account

simpsonc510 Sep 9th, 2009 09:00 AM

All Swiss are (were) equipt with protection for their homes, and to become a citizens army if need be. So, YES, the farmer probably has a shotgun. It may be an old Swiss K31 rifle, but he would know how to use it.... :)

It's definitely the bankers you need to be careful of. They like your accounts, but only if they contain lots of money, which you need to leave in their trusty hands for a long time! We have a friend who moved from the UK to Switzerland and had to deposit lots and lots and lots of SFr, which I'm sure he will never see again. But he loves living in Switzerland.

Kathie Sep 9th, 2009 09:05 AM

Well, the champagne in the Thai lounge is certainly disappointing. I am glad to hear that Thai has Dom and caviar in First Class. Sigh, I can remember when United served caviar in First on trans-Pacific flights. Those were the "good old days" of flying.

khunwilko Sep 9th, 2009 07:25 PM

All Swiss households have firearms! It's part of the National standing army. I look forward to hearing how you got on

kuranosuke Sep 10th, 2009 12:03 AM

kathie, thanks for jogging my memory. i too, remember having all the caviar i could eat in fc on ua going to japan, a long time ago. i almost got the fa to give me a tin to go. lol.

Gpanda Sep 10th, 2009 02:29 AM

Did anyone else notice the frequency of Hanuman's "holidays"? China, Switzerland, who knows what's next? Of course, he may gte to be a guest of the Swiss government after the cowbell caper comes to fruition.

ekscrunchy Sep 10th, 2009 03:11 AM

Hanuman can accomplish anything.

Releasing a placid cow from its unwieldy, clanging necklace is small potatoes for an agent of his stature.

simpsonc510 Sep 10th, 2009 05:11 AM

Pssst, hanuman, those cow bells are available in souvenir shops. They come in all sizes.... You can always buy one there, and then make up a good story about wrestling it from a Swiss cow.

Hanuman Sep 10th, 2009 06:07 AM

Just got back from another beautiful day at Engelberg and Mt. Titlis.

Carol,

That was my plan all along, take a photo next to a cow and then go and buy a bell from a souvenir shop. Perhaps if I can find a cow lying on it's side then I can claim that I flipped it to get it's bell!

Did see some young soldiers(armed but no magazine on their guns) getting off a train today. The soldiers here have very long hairs and non of them carried the Swiss army knife - another SCAM by the Swiss government?

simpsonc510 Sep 10th, 2009 06:26 AM

Pook... great story... flipping the cow!
Swiss army knife scam... yep!
Have a great day. How's the scenery? Are you clouded in, or is it clear blue sky?

hawaiiantraveler Sep 10th, 2009 07:03 AM

Wengen?? Linda and I once experienced a thunderstorm in Wengen. What a sight and especially the sounds. The thunder would boom, I mean unreal loud as it echoed throughout the valleys, just spectacular.

Hope you all are having a good vacation.

<i>Perhaps if I can find a cow lying on it's side</i> = lean beef

Aloha!

Gpanda Sep 10th, 2009 07:47 AM

The expression is "cow tipping" not cow flipping.

simpsonc510 Sep 10th, 2009 08:19 AM

Andy, that's amazing that you knew that... coming from a city boy lawyer... haha

HT.. lean beef... good one!

I know I can always come to fodors for a laugh or two during my busy day! Keep 'em coming.

Gpanda Sep 10th, 2009 08:30 AM

Cambridge is all things to all people. Cows grazed on Cambridge Common in Revolutionary times. Hanuman should have known this from his storied youth.

BillT Sep 10th, 2009 09:19 AM

Hanuman:
While in Luzern be sure to go see the Lion in Stone and of course walk the bridge. We we fortunate to walk the bridge years ago before it burned down and now has been rebuilt. Did you go to Mount Pilitas? We will be in BKK Jan 16 thru Jan 29- maybe we can hook up for a drink or meal?
