I stayed at the Life Resort..It was very nice. Also took a cooking class at the Red Bridge Cooking School, which was alot of fun.

I stayed at VinH Hung Merchants House, a Chinese Hotel in the Old town about 50 metres from the Japanese bridge. We went for one of the rooms on the rooms on the 1st floor which had abalony overlooking the main street. apparently Michael caine used the room as dressing room when filming The Quiet American. Not 5* and no restaurant (but many close by), but full of antiques and somewhere really different and the only hotel actaully in the old town. Definitely worth considering if you want something other than the resort type hotels.

We really liked the Hoi An Hotel. Big rooms, nice view, nice pool and restaurant, but in the town.

I would avoid the Hoi An hotel. Stayed there last spring, thought it was a dump. rooms were awlful, rest of resort was just ok.
The location is very good. But Hoi an is so small, I don't think you could find a particularly bad location.
The life resort looked nice...

Stayed at Life Resort last Aug for 7 nights, 2 adults + 2 children.
Absolutely fantastic.
Book garden rooms rather than river rooms as quieter and more private.
