Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap

The airfares I've found from HCMC to Siem Reap seem to be around $400. Are there other options that aren't as expensive that won't take days to get there? I haven't been successful in figuring out how long it takes by bus or boat.

thanks for your help,

Margy

You can take a boat or bus to Phnom Penh, and a bus or private car on to Siem Reap. That would take a couple of days, but be much more interesting. See talesofasia.com for details.

All flights to Siem Reap are expensive. This one is about $180 each way (vayama.com has the correct price) as only Vietnam Airlines flies this route. The bus is 12 hours. You can also take a 6 hr bus to Phnom Pehn, spend a night there and take a 5.5 hr bus to Siem Reap from there.

your other option is to make this into a trip. you can take the Mekong delta cruise and bus combo there that would take 2 or 3 days depending on the one you get.

Another option to the bus is a taxi. Take a taxi from HCMC to boarder crossing at Mac Bai, a 2hr trip costing around $30. Another taxi from here to Phnom Penh, 3-4 hrs around $40. If you get in by noon or shortly after you can continue to SR by yet another taxi for about $50 for the 41/2 hr trip. These costs are per taxi not per person. Makes a long day but far cheaper than flying.

Thank you so much to everyone for the information. It looks like it's going to either take more time or money than I'd originally thought. I guess it's time to evaluate the options!
