Hilton Toyko to Kabukicho ---evening walk??
 

During an upcoming short visit to Tokyo, my wife and I would enjoy taking an evening walk from the Hilton Tokyo (Shinjuku) to the dazzling lights of the Kabukicho area.

During the first hour or two of darkness, will we feel safe taking such a walk??

As I understand it, you are asking about a walk of about 15 or 20 minutes each way in the heart of Tokyo in the early evening and under dazzling lights? I can't imagine a safer city in which to take such a walk. Of course, be mindful of your environment and take ordinary precautions. But no promises and no guarantees!

The Shinjuku Hilton is actually located in the 'office/government' part of Shinjuku which has a strangely sterile feel: lots of tower blocks set in big wide avenues which can feel deserted at night. But as kja says above, Tokyo is one of the safest cities in the world. The hotel has a complimentary shuttle and is linked via passageways to the subway but I assume you'd prefer to walk above ground.

Yes you will feel safe walking around that neighborhood although the Hilton to Kabukicho is a long walk. I would estimate at least 25 minutes or more. Large intersections to cross and Shinjuku Station to get around or under.

You don't need to walk as far as Kabukicho to see the nightlife and lights. A shorter walk towards the Shinjuku Station area and through Nishi-Shinjku will give you enough lights, bars, restaurants,shops of all kinds. You'd have to walk this way to get to Kabukicho anyway. You could take a taxi one way and walk back if really want to see Kabukicho specifically. That way you could see your route and not get too lost :)

It's nice walk to see big tower buildings in Nishi-shinjyuku where the Hilton is, but like other people said, it's not walk to Kabukicho area. If you want to walk around Kabukicho, the it's better to take a taxi or a shuttle bus to the station or Kabukicho.

Just a thought: the Hilton is right across the street from the Hyatt Regency, and right next door to the Hyatt are the twin-towered government buildings. Each tower has an observation deck on the 45th floor that provides an amazing 360-degree view of Tokyo, with placards to tell you what you're looking at. No charge to go there, and definitely worth the short walk from the Hilton. Also, one of the towers is open at night (can't remember if it's the north or south tower, but since they're both accessed from the main lobby, you'll know when you go). The nighttime panorama of Tokyo is worth a second trip, even if you've seen it during the day.

Yes! The observation deck at the government building is really nice! They open until 23:00 night and the north tower cafe also open till 23:00. The sehp was selling a bottle of "Tokyo tap water" :P
