Hill stations

Has anyone visited either Almora or Naini-tal, both hill stations to the NE of Delhi?
Any recommendations of budget hotels, places to eat and good walks to see the higher peaks of the Himalayas??

What about Kashmir? I was there one month before and it was great. We slept in a houseboat and made a great trekking tour to Ladakh. We had a guide, he organized everything for us. If you like to contact him, here his e-mail-adress: [email protected]. He also organizes every other tour to the North of India.

Hi meg
Both the towns are beautiful. Nainital is a bit more commercialized and there is more choice in shopping, eating and site-seeing. Almora is a much smaller town with a real laid back atmosphere. You will enjoy going for walks in the jungles and will get a fabulous view of the Himalayas. Some other great places to visit nearby are Mukteshwar, Binsar, Ranikhet and Kausani (all have fabulous views of the Himalayas). When are you planning to be there? For accomodations you can check out
http://almora.nic.in/
http://www.nainitaltourism.com/
If you are looking for tranquility and if you love mountains you will have a great time. Hope this helps.

I am planning to visit a hill station in early December, taking the train from Delhi. Any recommended hotels please?

we went to Darjeeling, which was really great - its actually in NE India and we got there by train from Calcutta and then a jeep up winding roads and steep hill sides to the hill station town.
If you can do it- stay at the Windamere.
Absolutely classic.
