High Hong Kong Hotel Rates - Any Suggestions?

The hotel prices in Hong Kong are very high, even for the YMCA! Other than hostels, which mostly get bad reviews on Trip Advisor and other user comment websites, where can one find a good deal on hotel prices in hong Kong? (Clean, Safe, Well Located with Ensuite Bathroom) and Easy Access to Public Transportation). Are there any last minute websites or tourist info desks which show or know of deep discounts on empty rooms for that same night or the next few days? or weeks in advance? Thanks for any information and any hotel recommendations for places you have stayed at. I will also be taking a tour to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai and was wondering what type of souvenirs are usually brought back to family and friends from China? Thanks in advance for your feedback. Tony

What was the rate you were quoted for the Salisbury YMCA -- we're planning on staying there in March.

Have you looked at Bishop Lei? I just stayed there, and if you don''t insist on a view they're not too high. Shuttle to a couple of places and bus stop right outside, mid-level escalators easy walking distance.

Ditto Bishop Lei -- just walk out the door and grab a taxi or bus down to the waterfront.

I third Bishop Lei. I live just down the street from there and it's a convenient area for transportation and a pretty central location. You can walk to some restaurants as well.

Even the bog standard rooms at Bishop Lei can be over US$150 depending on your dates. They generally run from about $90 to well over $200. Specific dates make a huge difference.

If the Salisbury YMCA quoted $150 - my guess is you are there during a high cost/heavily booked period.
