Has anyone stayed here? Heard anything bad or good?
Beach/small hotel looks nice and have read a couple of positive reviews elsewhere.

It is a pleasant quiet beach hotel with absolute beachfront, very good location, about 10 minutes I guess from center of Hua Hin.
One of the nicest areas to stay in Hua Hin !

Would you advise this hotel over and above the Hyatt etc....? or do you think the bigger chains nearer to town are better?

It is in different class to say the Hyatt, the Hyatt regency is a tiop luxury resort ( and priced in the USD 120/150 plus range ), the Anantasila is a smaller 3 star range beach hotel probably in the USD 50 range, so you can't compare the 2 at all.
There is no advantage being nearer the town center as the town is a place you might go for shopping, bars and restaurants but during the day the more south or north from the town the nicer it would be at the beach. Local transport is very cheap compared with other beach areas.

I would add we always stay down that way, as opposed to the center of town, much nicer all round.
