Help with weather and sheraton hotel
Hi everybody
We are planning to go to Thailand at 6 to 19 of September 3 days in BKK and 10 days to Phuket.
From what we've read untill now about hotels we think about Shagri La in BKK and Sheraton Grande Laguna in Phuket.Any thoughts about those hotels would be appriciated.
Also can anyone please tell us about what kind of weather we should expect that time.

The Shangri-La is really one of the best locations in Bangkok -- right on the river, next to both the main river taxi pier as well as a Skytrain station. From here you can easily get to just about every sight in the city. About the only complaint I could make is that it is sooo big. Takes 15 minutes just to get from one lobby to the other (that's how big it is - two lobbies!).
The Sheriton Laguna is also very nice. It's part of the Laguna resort complex of five or six hotels around a lagoon. The advantage is that you can dine or shop in any of the hotels in the resort and charge things to your room. The disadvantage is that the resort is more or less self-contained, and a long way from the main tourist areas, so it might get very old after 10 days. You might want to consider spliting your time in the south between Phuket and Krabi, as well as spending another day in Bangkok.

you have great hotels ahead of you...my only suggestions, is that you cut a couple of days from phuket and add them on to the end of your trip at some bangkok location....2 days is not enough for bkk....if you are coming from europe or the usa you will be beat upon arrival so it will take a day and 1/2 to catch up...so your initial days are wasted....an alternative is to go directly to phuket upon arrival and have 4 or so nice days in bkk before you go home...

the shangri-la is really two hotels in one, but there are 2 buildings with a very long corridor in between....it seems very huge...you have to go through it from the main hotel to get to the skytrain and it seems like it takes for ever...
make sure to join the sh-la F/F club before you go as there are lots of advantages...i think you still get free breakfasts at the bangkok location...it will be the best breakfast of your life....

the f/f club bob is referring to is their Executive Club. There is no charge to join and you get free perks from the Shangri La hotels, ie 50% discount on breakfast, late checkouts,fresh fruit daily,etc. Check their website to join http://www.shangri-la.com/en/home.aspx
When I was there in March 05 they still were giving free breakfasts with the EC membership.
September will be hot...it's always hot there with a high dewpoint temperature which makes it feel even hotter. Hope this helps.

If you stop in the super luxury Krungthep Wing at the Shangri La this is adjacent to the monorail station. The Krungthep Wing is probably my favourite accomodation in Bangkok. Its connected to the main wing of the hotel via a long corridor, a waterfront walk through the hotel's grounds or via a complimentary hotel tuk tuk - whilst it part of the Shangri la hotel it feels like a completely seperate hotel and doesn't feel anywhere near as busy as the main wing.

I agree about splitting up time between Phuket and Krabi. That is what we did last year. We stayed at Rayavadee in Krabi and was our favorite hotel in Thailand. Beautiful location, scenery, and good jumping off point to go to Phi Phi Islands.
We stayed at Banyan Tree in Phuket which is part of the Laguna area which includes the Sheraton. We ate dinner at the Sheraton one night. It was very nice. But keep in mind, the Laguna area is at least a 30 minute taxi ride to Patong (the main area with shopping/restaurants). Although I don't know how much Patong was affected by the tsunami so that might not be a factor.
I guess it depends on what you want to do. If you plan to hang out at the pool/beach most of the time and eat at the resorts then it's fine. But if you plan to go to the tourist areas more often then I would probably pick a hotel closer. If we were to go back we probably would not stay in the laguna area again due to the distance.
