Help with the weather on Inle Lake
 

We leave Saturday for Burma. FINALLY. Anyway - I have read on a couple trip reports that it is cold on Inle Lake in the early morning (6:30 am). Is that always the case? Looking at the weather right now it appears to be quite hot in Burma - but trying to ascertain if it will be cold on the lake in the morning. If so - can anyone quantify how cold? 50 degrees? I hate to take a bunch of extra clothes unless I am going to need them.

We were there over the new year period a few years ago and it was cold at night until about mid morning when it started to warm up. At niight the temp got down to 6-7 degree Celsius and mid day it was pleasant around 20 degrees. Dress in layers is the best advice.

Just remembered that you will most likely be cruising around in an open boat so a wind breaker for early morning rides will be good.

We were there in November.
In the early morning it was cold, around 6°C.
The hot weather in Myanmar is at sea level.
Inle is at +/- 900 m altitude.
It was never hot like in Mandalay or Yangon.

On a boat you really need extra clothes in the morning and late afternoon.
I wore an extra sweater and a light jacket.

There were umbrellas on board, good against midday sun, unexpected rain and to shield from the cold wind.

We heard of one boat that ran out of fuel in the middle of a rainshower with no umbrellas on board.

We loved Inle!
Our Pa-o guides were fabulous.

You need to be prepared for early morning cold - we each had a windbreaker jacket that worked well. You also need to be prepared for intense sun. So make sure to bring a hat and lots of sunscreen. We were advised to bring light gloves, but it was warmer than usual and we didn't need them. Layers is the way to go.

BTW, our boat also had umbrellas, which we used against the sun.

We went in Jan-Feb and absolutely needed the layers we wore in the boat. As it warms up, you just peel them off and leave on the boat. I had socks, gloves, sweater, 2-3 T shirts, and a shawl that i used as a scarf around my neck. I bought cheap socks and gloves that I could just leave in Myanmar. Afternoons on the boat were hot. Our boat also had umbrellas but we still needed the warmth of the layers.
