help with Rajasthan itinerary
 

We are planning a trip to India in mid October 2010. We have planned 13 nights in Rajasthan. We will have a car and driver. The initial suggestion from the travel agent was fairly standard- 2 days Agra, 2 Ranthanbhor, 2 Jaipur, 2 Bikaner 2 Jaisalmer, 1 Jodhpur, and 2 Udaipur...When looking at it in detail there is far too much time on the road. Although I hate to do it, I think we should cut out Bikaner and Jaisalmer. I thought we could go from Jaipur to Jodhpur, add 1 day to both Jaipur and Udaipur and spend 2 quiet days in Narlai. Does that seem more reasonable? Is there any other suggestions that you might have to "do less but see more"?

I have a suggestion to start with: lose that travel agent - now. Anybody who is serving up a bog-awful standard shlep like that is not acting in your best interests.

Your revised plan sounds like a lot more fun. Your trip isn't for twelve months - you can arrange ALL of this yourself, easy as pie - or go through any number of companies, large and small.

To visit there i have a better suggestion for you .
You can start your trip from delhi
Then move to rajasthan . Move to Agra and return to delhi. In Rajasthan visit bikaner, jaisalmer jodhpur udaipur, pushkar jaipur .You can have a detailed information from the link .

if you have already not started with your trip,
here are my suggestions
Agra- 2
Jaipur- 3
Jodhpur- 3
Udaipur - 4 (most beatiful)
You can see Pushkar enroute.(2/3 hours)
Bikaner is a lovely city.- 1 night(may be)
You can stay at Gajner palace which is very good and reasonable.
You can skip Jaisalmer(overhyped) and Ranthambore(disappointing)
Skip Ajmer strictly.Lots of pick pockets.
Udaipur is most beautiful and romantic.
There are places around it which are must see.--
Chittor Fort , Kumbalgarh(You can skip this)
Don't forget to have dinner at a lake side restaurant called "ambrai" which is inside a heritage hotel called Amet Haveli.
It is MAGICAL. Most memorable dinner in my life.
You can see 4 lit up palaces reflecting in the lake Pichhola.
There are lanterns hanging from the trees. A guy plays a traditional string instrument "Sarangee" sitting under a tree. Don't forget to tip him. He is a maestro.
Spend one evening in Jag Mandir palace, either beer and lunch or Dinner.
I am siure you will fall in love with Udaipur.
It will be a bit hot.

As you are travelling mid to late October you might be able to take in the Camel Fair at Pushkar. Not everyones cup of tea but I loved it. You will probably just be passing through but for others interested we stayed at the Colonels Camp in Swiss Tent. Meals on the lawn by the orchard. Just lovely. Sue
